The Division of Public Health within DHHS, has an immediate opening for a WIC Nutrition Coordinator our Lifespan Health unit. The Public Health WIC Nutrition Coordinator is employed by the Nebraska Department of Health & Human Services (DHHS) in the Division of Public Health and coordinates the nutrition services and support components of the Nebraska WIC Program. Examples of Work
1. Coordinate the nutrition services components of the Nebraska WIC Program, working closely with program contractors, state and local WIC staff, regional WIC work groups, task forces, and USDA. 2. Apply innovative ideas and best practices to develop, manage and evaluate the nutrition services offered by the WIC Program. 3. Collaborate with the WIC Breastfeeding and Outreach Coordinator coordinating WIC nutrition and breastfeeding services. 4. Collaborate with WIC Training and Communications Coordinator on training center enhancements and evaluation of training as needed. 5. Participate in state planning, evaluation and monitoring of WIC services and program operations. 6. Interpret federal regulations; develop and maintain state policies, procedures and guidelines on nutrition services; and develop the state nutrition services plan. 7. Provide technical support on nutrition services components of the Journey computer system to state and local WIC staff. 8. Identify, develop and provide nutrition services training for local agency staff. 9. Identify, develop and maintain nutrition education resources and materials. 10. Coordinate nutrition services with other internal DHHS programs and external program partners. 11. Provide technical assistance, consultation and support to local agencies on nutrition services.
Qualifications / Requirements
REQUIREMENTS: Experience in clinical nutrition and/or community/public health nutrition; leadership or management responsibility, such as responsibility for a particular program, program area, or geographic region. Registered Dietitian (RD), Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) or eligible for the RD examination through the Commission on Dietetic Registration with successful completion of the exam within one year after hiring date. OTHER: Valid driver's license or the ability to provide independent authorized transportation.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of the principles and practices of food and nutrition Knowledge of the methods and techniques for providing nutrition education, counseling and behavior change Experience evaluating the quality of nutrition services and programs An understanding of how to apply federal rules and regulations and develop program guidance and procedures The ability to communicate with community leaders, health professionals, program staff and the public The ability to lead and build coalitions and collaborations, Experience develop training and training resources and conducting training Skills in managing multiple work projects and priorities and decision making General knowledge and understanding of data analysis and application of data.
