Job Description

Pay Rate: $105000 to $115000 Per Year.

Position Purpose:

Supervises two or more full time employees in an assigned plant or department. Plans and coordinates activities of workers to perform maintenance services, installation or repairs in one or more skills areas such as plumbing, mechanical, electrical repairs, pneumatic, hydraulic, installation, carpentry, painting or vehicle servicing. Monitors the status of scheduled and completed work along with parts inventory through use of Veolia's CMMS (VAMS) asset management program.

Primary Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the Veolia Safety Program is effective.
  • Select, supervise, and train staff to ensure implementation of management directives and the ongoing availability of qualified staff.
  • Develop, Administer and Manage departmental budget.
  • Interacts with other front line supervisors, managers, operators and shift supervisors to guarantee the efficient, safe and permit compliant operation of the system.
  • Interacts with client as necessary for reporting on, maintaining or operating the system in an efficient, safe and permit compliant manor.
  • Fill in for absent supervisors as directed.
  • Support client capital projects Required to be administratively proficient and detailed oriented to manage key performance indicators along with project management.
  • Participates in the development of weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual work schedule.
  • Maintain effectiveness in a changing environment, able to explain changes at the company to others creating support and buy in for change.
  • Candidate is comfortable dealing with the competing priorities and missions within the company.
  • Front Line Supervisor of Collective Bargaining Unit personal in multiple trades and Units.
  • Directs assigned staff in the performance of approved maintenance activities. This includes pre-planned and unplanned work on a daily basis.
  • Ensures that good housekeeping practices are followed.
  • Instructs staff in the best methods, materials, tools, and equipment required.
  • Provides feedback, coaching, opportunity, and decision-making authority to employees to keep them actively engaged and able to improve their work situation and company processes.
  • Is fair and deals objectively with workplace situations. Effectively disciplines employees as needed.
  • Other duties as may be assigned.

Work Environment:

  • Working conditions - will be exposed to varied temperature extremes, noise, fumes, odors, confined spaces, elevated heights, depths (up to 300 ft underground), dust, sitting for prolonged times in front of the computer.
  • Spends 70% of time in the field environment and 30% of time in an office environment.
  • May need to work outside in inclement weather conditions and drive company vehicle to perform duties.
  • Occasional travel for training or meetings.
  • This function is largely in an industrial environment.
  • Will require frequent visits to maintenance and repair locations.
  • This position requires "on-call" time.
  • Travel up to 10% of the time.

Qualifications

Education/Experience/Background:

  • Degree in a related field or equivalent related experience is desirable.
  • Must hold or be working toward the appropriate level of Water/Wastewater Maintenance Technician Certification, i.e., Mechanical Technologist Grade 3 from California Water Environment Association as required by site. Must demonstrate knowledge of current and pending wastewater treatment standards, regulations and federal, state and local laws and codes.
  • Five to seven years in various positions within a water / wastewater treatment environment with knowledge of methods, principles and practices of operating, maintaining and repairing wastewater treatment plant equipment, instrumentation and associated systems.
  • Lead experience or supervisory training required with understanding of human relations, training, performance evaluation and health and safety.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Must have an understanding of water / wastewater treatment process engineering, water quality assurance, maintenance strategy, instrumentation and control logic, electrical repair / installation and NEC code.
  • Must demonstrate effective skills in troubleshooting, problem solving and team building.
  • Ingenuity and initiative are required to coordinate problem resolution and to execute the schedule requirements within a team environment.
  • Must have a general knowledge of budget preparation and understanding of cost control.
  • Demonstrated excellent verbal communications and interpersonal skills in order to interface with and motivate all levels of personnel.
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare accurate, timely, effective, complete and easily understood written communications and reports.
  • Proficiency in the care and use of all site specific, facility required Personal Protection Equipment (PPE).
  • PC skills and knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet and presentation software for preparing work related reports, charts, graphs and data submittal requirements. Ability to use computer systems for preparing work orders, purchase requisitions, and task authorizations (TA's).
  • Must be able to serve rotational 24 hour emergency on-call if required by site.
  • Demonstrated commitment to compliance with applicable laws and regulations, the Company's Code of Business Conduct and other Company policies and procedures.

Required Certification/Licenses/Training:

  • California Class C drivers license.
  • CWEA Mechanical Technologist Grade 3 within 3 years of employment.
  • CWEA or ISA Instrumentation Technologist certification is desirable.
  • Specific training in low and medium voltage to 480VAC service and repair is desirable.

Physical Requirements:

  • Physical Effort Required - Bending, Standing, lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs, climbing ladders, walking, climbing and balancing, stooping, crouching, crawling and smelling.
