Job Description

POSITION PURPOSE

The role of the Maintenance Planner is to improve workforce productivity and work quality by anticipating and eliminating potential delays through planning and coordination of manpower, parts and material, and equipment access. The individual is responsible for planning, scheduling and coordination of all plannable maintenance work performed on the plant site. The planning and scheduling function is the hub from which all plannable maintenance
activity is coordinated. It is the process of describing a job in terms of how it is to be performed and what resources will be required. Optimizes the efficiency of the Maintenance Department by providing short term and long term planning / scheduling that increases work output while minimizing wasted effort.

PRIMARY DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Knows the job well enough that he/she can describe what is to be accomplished and can estimate how many man-hours will be required. Schedule and plan preventive, routine maintenance, and shutdown work activities.
  • Is the principal contact and liaison person between Maintenance and Operations and other supported departments. Responsible for managing data input into the work order system. Responsible for managing a work order backlog.
  • Communicate with operations to effectively plan and schedule work in accordance with their needs and their operating schedules. Review work order requests and correct deficiencies.
  • Is responsible for long-range as well as short-range planning. Long-range planning involves the regular analysis of backlog relative to available resources. These two basic variables must be kept in balance if a proactive maintenance environment is to be established and sustained.

  • Administers management policies and directives, trains and evaluates subordinate staff including administering discipline as required.
  • Promotes safety practices and procedures by training employees, reporting on unsafe conditions and by filing reports on injuries.

Qualifications

Education / Experience / Background

  • Bachelors in Mechanical, Maintenance, or Electrical Engineering is preferred.
  • High School or GED required.
  • Minimum of five years of relevant experience in Maintenance Planning, with preferred experience in heavy manufacturing, chemical, refining or utilities industry.
  • Two to three years experience working in planning / scheduling and estimating industrial maintenance work preferred.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

  • Requires superior interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to develop and maintain good working relationships with clients, public, employees, etc.
  • Excellent management and organizational skills are also required.
  • Must possess superior organizational skills and be able to prioritize and work simultaneously on several projects.
  • Ability to operate within a team atmosphere.
  • Ability to shift priorities frequently and effectively perform under pressure.
  • Ability to operate computer, typewriter and other office machines as needed.
  • Strong basic mathematics and computer skills (Microsoft Suite products, CMMS).
  • Ability to plan, schedule and evaluate the quality and quantity of work needed to accomplish work group goals within set limits of time and cost.
  • Ability to coordinate assignments with other sections, departments or agencies.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to prepare clear and concise records, reports and other written materials.
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints, drawings, specifications and sketches pertaining to the work.
  • Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment in performing assignments.
  • Must be able to respond to emergency calls as needed and work extended hours to accommodate UW needs.

Required Certification / Licenses / Training

  • Valid Florida or other state Driver's License.
  • Knowledge of industrial materials, equipment, and tooling.
  • Experience in Computerized maintenance management software experience.
