Job Description Summary
The V/R Rehabilitation Job Placement Specialist assesses patient's employment potential, provides placement service and provides job coaching service to foster marginal patients' adjustment on the job, uses patient/job assessment, job coaching, job design, job development and job market analysis techniques to determine appropriate employment and/or training best suited for individual patients, coordinates job seeking skills program and conducts labor market surveys.

Job Description

The V/R Rehabilitation Job Placement Specialist will:

  • Provides direct placement services by contacting numerous employers and develops jobs for patients in Chicago area. Establishes and maintains communication with business, industries and appropriate community agencies in Chicago to develop placement resources. Collaborates with vocational team members.
  • Provides job counseling to patients to help determine appropriate job, attempts to locate and organize on-the-job training programs, monitors patients progress and provides follow-up services. Collaborates with vocational team members.
  • Meets revenue production requirement for a Placement Specialist as defined by department policy.
  • Uses job analysis, job engineering and job modification techniques to determine employment or training best suited for individual patient.
  • Coordinates job seeking skills program and teaches patients in various aspects including resume preparation and job finding skills.
  • Successfully completes the RICIS training programs and utilizes RICIS in performing job duties as needed.
  • Provides timely clinical progress notes on patients receiving job placement/coaching services.
  • Conducts labor market surveys to determine demand for particular skill or career.
  • Provides job coaching services as needed.

Reporting Relationships
  • Reports to Manager, Vocational Rehabilitation.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required
  • Requires knowledge of personality, career development, counseling, testing and sampling techniques normally acquired through completion of a Bachelor's degree in Vocational Rehabilitation Counseling, Vocational Evaluation, Disability Services, Psychology, Social Work, or related field.
  • Requires knowledge of client evaluation, job coaching procedures and the ability to match a person to an appropriate job normally acquired through two years of experience working with people with disabilities in job placement and work behavior adjustments programs.
  • Requires substantial interpersonal skills necessary to establish and maintain contacts with various businesses in order to identify new job resources for clients and to communicate effectively with clients, co-workers and job sites.
  • Requires analytical abilities necessary to assess patient skills/experience/abilities, analyze jobs, identify job modification requirements, and analyze labor market survey data in order to formulate placement/coaching action plan.
  • Has valid driver's license.

Working Conditions
  • Normal office environment with little or no exposure to dust or extreme temperature.
  • Travel to off-site locations
