Position Summary

The Sturm College of Law seeks to hire a dedicated and innovative individual, at the rank of Visiting Assistant, Associate, or full Professor of the Practice of Law, for the 2023-24 academic year. The successful candidate will teach two sections of Lawyering Process, a required, first-year, two-semester course that exposes students to the foundational elements of legal research and writing, document drafting, and professional practice skills. At their election, the colleague will have the ability to teach an additional upper-division, elective course on a compensated overload basis.

The successful candidate would be expected to commence employment no later than August 1, 2023.

Essential Functions

  • Teach two sections of Lawyering Process, a required, first-year, two-semester course that exposes students to the foundational elements of legal research and writing, document drafting, and professional practice skills.
  • Collaborate with other colleagues in the Lawyering Process Program to adapt and incorporate innovative, inclusive, and effective teaching methods and to advance the impact, stature, and visibility of the Program.
Required Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor or equivalent degree(s) from an accredited law school
  • Excellent legal research, analysis, reasoning, writing, and communication skills
  • At least two years of legal practice experience
  • A commitment to inclusive teaching methods designed to effectively engage a diverse student population
  • The ability to work both independently and collaboratively
Work Schedule

While the University's administrative offices are open Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm, faculty schedules vary from term to term and are based on courses taught, service commitments, and research agendas. Salary Grade Number:
The salary grade for the position is UC.

Salary Range:
The salary range for this position is $90,000-$120,000, dependent on rank and experience.

The University may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, but not based on a candidate's sex or any other protected status.
