The Department of Mathematics consists of twenty faculty and offers bachelors, masters and doctorate degrees. Active areas of research include algebraic logic, combinatorics, ergodic theory, functional analysis, graph theory, nonassociative algebra, noncommutative geometry, number theory, operator theory, probability, representation theory, set theory, statistical physics and topological dynamics.

Position Summary

The Department of Mathematics at the University of Denver invites applications for a postdoctoral Visiting Assistant Professor position in mathematics to begin in the fall of 2022. This is a non tenure-track position that may be renewed for a maximum of three years. The successful candidate will teach five undergraduate courses over three quarters during the 9-month academic year and is expected to conduct high quality research. Preference will be given to applicants whose research interests have some overlap with those of the permanent faculty members. Active areas of research include algebraic logic, combinatorics, ergodic theory, functional analysis, graph theory, nonassociative algebra, noncommutative geometry, number theory, operator theory, probability, representation theory, set theory, statistical physics and topological dynamics. Experience in teaching college mathematics and evidence of research ability and potential are also required. Candidates must have a Ph.D. in mathematics completed between May 1, 2016 and September 1, 2022.

Essential Functions

A visiting assistant professor:

• Teaches 5 undergraduate courses per academic year during the Fall, Winter and Spring quarters.
• Conducts high quality research under the mentorship of a permanent faculty member of the Department of Mathematics.
• Participates in departmental seminars and generally supports the research enterprise of the department.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Teaching experience at college level math courses,
• Ability to conduct high-quality research in mathematics,
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Initiative and ability to work both independently and in a collaborative, collegial environment.
• Demonstrated experience interacting with diverse communities or evidence of a commitment to incorporate inclusive teaching methods and/or pedagogies to effectively engage broadly diverse student populations.
• Demonstrated commitment to inclusive excellence, equity, and access in education.

Required Qualifications

• PhD in Mathematics.
• Teaching experience at college level math courses.
• Evidence of research ability and potential.

Preferred Qualifications

• Demonstrated experience or commitment to engage effectively with historically underrepresented communities.
• Research interests have some overlap with those of the permanent math faculty.

Salary Grade Number:
The salary grade for the position is UC.

Salary Range:
The salary range for this position is $51,000-$54,000.

The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, but not based on a candidate's sex or any other protected status.
