Overview

The Vice President of Underwriting and Programs will be responsible for oversight into all existing and new MGA Partnerships. The ideal candidate will be able to problem solve and maintain relationships across the Enterprise. They will have P/L responsibility, agency development, implement changes, lead a Team and establish relationships across various business lines.

Responsibilities

  • Coach team members on achieving goals and developing necessary skills that get results.
  • Ability to make and sell both individual and portfolio risk decisions.
  • Manage relationships with Managing General Agents to ensure lasting, profitable books of business.
  • Coordinate the resources needed to achieve desired results.
  • Monitor results including the development and implementation of strategic action plans for under-performing segments.
  • Provide leadership, support and guidance to team members
  • Develop opportunities to grow a book of business that produces profits.
  • Ensures compliance with established company and regulatory guidelines and procedures to provide high quality customer service
  • Participates in the implementation of divisional and company initiatives and strategies
  • Develop and implement strategies for maintaining program profitability and growth
  • Pro-actively update underwriting guidelines to address current market changes and emerging risks
  • Coordination of internal disciplines/resources to bind new programs and manage existing programs
  • Participates in the development of strategic plans, goals, and objectives ensuring alignment with those of the division and company
  • Provides informal feedback on an ongoing basis and formal feedback in the annual performance evaluation process to identify and develop talent.
  • Consultative participation in individual risk referral process.
  • Pro-actively manages and monitors results of assigned underwriting team to achieve desired results.
  • Implements business initiatives including prompt corrective action plans for programs with below threshold performance
  • Recommend and lead special projects to support program department profitability


Qualifications

  • Utilizes leadership, coaching, and problem solving skills to anticipate issues, seek out and evaluate information, and collaborate to develop proactive solutions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication presented in a clear and concise manner to build working relationships.
  • Positive and balanced attitude.
  • Maintain constructive working relationships despite differing perspectives. Considers the perspectives of others and gives them credibility.
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, and negotiation skills
  • Self-motivated and independent individual with highly developed organizational skills and the ability to prioritize.
  • Quickly address problems by providing solutions and implementing actions to resolve.
  • Strong understanding of underwriting and pricing principles.
  • Comfort with coverage forms and filings.
  • A minimum of 15 years of multi-line property/casualty insurance experience in an underwriting and management role at an insurance company.
  • S olid record of growth and profitability with a strong team.
