Veterinary Technician

Posting Summary:Perform routine checkups, carry out treatments, and perform medical procedures on animals in the University research facility. Perform or assist investigators with technical procedures such as medication administration, injections, blood collection, harvesting tissues or organs, post-op analgesia administration, anesthesia and gavaging. Maintain detailed records. Coordinate and implement the biomethods training program for UVM and Animal Care staff and students. Maintain quarantine facility and pharmacy area. Assist with training animal care staff and husbandry duties. Maintain healthy animals in accordance with "The Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals", legislation as mandated by local, state, and Federal agencies, and guidelines set forth by the AAALAC International. The importance of animal welfare and animal welfare legislation must be fully understood and followed.
Minimum Qualifications (or equivalent combination of education and experience):Bachelors degree in animal science or related field and two-three years of animal laboratory experience; or an Associate's degree in veterinary technology and five years' experience required. AALAS certifications (ALAT, LAT & LATg). required or the ability to obtain within designated timeline. A valid driver's license and driver's check are required.
Desirable Qualifications:Weekend work required, Bargaining unit position, External candidates must complete a 4-month probationary period, A probationary period may be required, Travel to and from worksites required, 40 hour work week
