Compensation: $15.00/hour

POSITION PURPOSE

Assist the nurses in nursing task. Assist with staffing, filing, scheduling appointments, transcribing orders, collecting data, and other clerical duties. Answers the unit telephone, assembles and maintains patient charts from admission to discharge, receives and records telephoned laboratory and diagnostic results and notifies appropriate nursing staff of the results. Verifies and follows-up on physician orders, processes patient orders, completes requests for examinations and other ancillary services i.e. x-rays, laboratory tests and transportation, orders unit supplies and assist Nurse Managers with duties as assigned.

Responsibilities of the Unit Clerk:

• Possess cognitive, organizational and emotional ability and maturity to deal effectively with multiple stressors, deadlines and difficult situations
• Possesses skills to work independently
• Requires typing, sitting and occasional bending and lifting
• Participates in mandatory overtime
• Participates in the hospital's Continuous Quality Improvement Program
• Serves as a member of assigned committees
• Requires physical strength, agility and endurance for heavy lifting, moving patients and equipment
• Requires bending, lifting and transporting patients
• Requires working with aggressive patients; participates in physical intervention techniques

 

EDUCATION

High School/GED required

WORK EXPERIENCE

• Medical terminology education or secretarial skills preferred
• Computer experience preferred
