Toxicology Instrumentation Tech I - Sat - Wed 6am-2:30pm
Basic Purpose:
Primary duties are operating, maintaining and repairing GC, GC/MS, GC/MS/MS and LC/MS/MS instruments; troubleshooting instruments and assays; validating new methods, training gcms staff on instrumentation. Solves complex problems on a routine basis.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1 Performs PM and repairs (simple and complex) on confirmation instruments.
2 Oversees the preventive maintenance (PM) program of confirmation instruments
3 Responsible for ordering instrumentation consumables, replacement parts and service.
4 Serve as a technical resource for the unit by investigating and resolving analytical testing problems, recommending a course of action in instances identified as beyond acceptable limits.
5 Train toxicology technical staff on operation of GCMS, GCMSMS and LCMSMS instruments.
6 Works with management team to assist with the validation of new procedures.
7 Review unit activities to ensure compliance with departmental policies and federal, state, and local regulations.
8 Assist with the department's annual competency testing process and documentation.
9 Interact in a professional manner with inter-departmental teams and groups.
10 Perform other duties as directed by supervisors

Qualifications:
Education Preferred:
Bachelor of Science/Arts in Chemistry, Biology, Medical Technology or related scientific field.
Work Experience:
Minimum of 3 years experience operating and maintaining GC/MS instruments. LC/MS/MS experience preferred. Demonstrated aptitude and knowledge maintaining and repairing instrumentation.
Other:
Must have a strong knowledge of chemistry and analytical theories (GC, LC, MS, MSMS, SPE) in order to troubleshoot instruments and assays.
Must have the ability to establish work priorities for self and others and handle several procedures simultaneously including troubleshooting instruments and other problems/issues.
Ability to schedule and manage resources to meet department goals.
Must interact with other departments.
Contact with vendors will be required, good customer service skills important.
Must protect patient/donor confidentiality at all times.
