Summary

Assists the Terminal Operations Manager in the administration and management of all terminal operations in a safe and cost efficient manner. Maintains appropriate inventory levels to ensure that cement shipments satisfy the needs of customers. Works under general supervision with specified directives, policies and procedures. Refers to supervisor when faced with unusual problems. Exercises supervision over terminal personnel.

Responsibilities

  • Assists Operations Manager in the management responsibilities for all terminal personnel including safety, hiring, training, supervising, scheduling and assigning duties.
  • Enforces safety guidelines and regulations to promote a safe working environment
  • Assures timely safety reporting and follow up on company safety initiatives.
  • Assists in the coordination of all inbound and outbound shipments of cement, which includes all bulk rail and truck traffic.
  • Supervises and/or participates in the unloading of cement from hopper cars and bulk trucks in a safe and cost effective manner.
  • Supervises and/or participates in loading bulk trucks. Coordinates and operates a computerized loading system.
  • Supervises and participates when needed in the maintenance and repair of the terminal, including equipment, buildings and terminal grounds. Maintains grounds by mowing the grass, keeping debris from collecting along fences and maintaining traffic access lanes. Monitors security of the terminal property.
  • Assists in the purchase of parts and supplies for the terminal in a cost effective manner. Maintains appropriate inventory levels.
  • Maintains proper certifications for state inspectors.
  • Orders cement and ensures an appropriate amount is stored at the terminal to satisfy customer demand in a cost efficient manner.
  • Assists in the daily opening and closing of computerized reports such as the daily shipping report.
  • Provides quality customer service, and assists customers in any concerns regarding the product, service or personnel involved in the purchase and shipment of cement.
  • Assists in the preparation of a written report on a weekly basis concerning inventory levels and any problems or concerns with regard to terminal operations.
  • Collaborates with sales personnel regarding credit status and approval, specified pricing, purchase orders, COD deliveries, etc.


Skills

  • Proficient in English written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to lead/manage others and coordinate activities with others.


Additional Skills and Requirements

  • Knowledge of all terminal policies and procedures as well as plant operations. Ability to operate all terminal equipment including railcar vibrators, silos and related equipment, switch engine and rail cars.
  • Skill in using computerized loading systems and personal computers.
  • Ability to lift heavy materials weighing up to 80 pounds.
  • Ability to climb silo ladders up to 50-75 feet in height (as applicable for each terminal).


Experience

  • 3 or more years of experience in the operations of a cement terminal or terminal in a related industry required


Education

  • H.S. Diploma / GED
  • Associate's Degree preferred
