Job Summary

Responsible for coding seasonal recipes for menus including special events for Dining Services. Provide nutritious and satisfying meals to students on the board plan by coordination of nutrient analysis and assist students with allergies/special diets. This is a temporary, unbenefited position.

Essential Functions

  • Code inventory items and recipes. Conduct and evaluate nutrient analysis, assign HACCP (Hazard Analysis of Critical Control Points), allergens, icons and the healthfulness factors to recipes for the base menu and special events. Work with the chefs to adjust recipes regarding portion size, excessive nutrients and allergens.
  • Prepare menus for forecasting three weeks in advance by incorporating special events and finalizing the weekly menus with accuracy.
  • Train staff with regard to food allergens. Meet with board students to discuss allergies and special dietary needs, conduct investigations of food allergy reactions and foodborne illnesses. Research food allergy reactions and update policies and procedures as needed. Organize list of incoming allergy/special diet students and e-mail information prior to their attendance of summer orientation. Speak to parents during the summer orientation regarding menu options, allergies and special dietary needs.
  • Guide dietetic interns to ensure competencies are being met in the absence of the Dietitian. Provide insight on research studies or projects for UMass Dining Program. Serve as FoodPro Coordinator in his/her absence. Performs other special and related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)

  • Bachelor's degree in Nutrition/Dietetics.
  • One (1) year of experience in administrative dietetic experience in a food service setting.
  • Dietetic internship through the Academy of Dietetics and Nutrition.
  • Ability to counsel students with allergies and special dietary needs.
  • High level of organizational skills.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office systems.
  • Ability to work with diverse groups.
  • Ability to learn the Dining Services Menu Management System.
  • Registered Dietitian Nutritionist through the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
  • Licensed Dietitian Nutritionist in the state of Massachusetts.

Preferred Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)

Minimum of three (3) months experience in nutrient analysis evaluation.

Physical Demands/Working Condition

Typical Office Environment.

Additional Details

  • Food allergy certification through ServSafe required upon Hire.

Work Schedule

  • M-F; 9am-4pm; may vary based on the needs of the department.
  • Temporary 6-month appointment.

Salary Information

$30-$35/hour
