The University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, Extra Help Services office is seeking individuals to join our COVID-19 saliva test collection team. The campus will be offering students, faculty, and staff free COVID-19 testing during the fall semester and have a need to hire over 400 Test Collection Assistants to help guide these individuals through the testing process. These are temporary positions with sites opening every week starting in July and hiring continuing well into the fall semester.
The Test Collection Assistants will work at various indoor and/or outdoor (large tent) locations on the University of Illinois campus. Job duties include working at the check-in table, giving instructions to those in line about how to proceed and how to collect their own saliva sample, giving instructions on where to place the samples, helping with line control and reminding people to stand at a safe distance, etc... Masks, gloves, and t-shirts will be provided to all workers.
Rate of Pay:
The rate of pay for Test Collection Assistant is $14.50 per hour with two lead workers per tent, per shift (selected by management) at $15.50 per hour.
The Test Collection Assistant and Test Collection Lead Worker positions are temporary positions with the option for full time or part-time work anticipated to last until Thanksgiving with the possibility of returning in the Spring. The work schedule options are:
- Full Time: Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
- Part Time: Monday through Friday, 2:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
- Part Time/Weekends: Saturday and Sunday, 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. (starting August 15, 2020)
Must be a minimum of 18 years old to apply.
These positions have no additional minimum requirements, but individuals must have a good work ethic, be able to follow and give clear instructions, and be friendly and able to work well with the public.Extra Help Positions:
Extra Help employees are appointed to fulfill casual or emergent needs within units. The amount of time for which services are needed is not usually predictable and payment for work performed is on an hourly basis and based on actual hours worked. Extra Help employees do not receive holiday pay or paid sick or vacation leave.
Extra Help employees are required by State Universities Civil Service System rules to take a 30-calendar-day break after working 900 hours. At the end of the 30-day period, you may begin another 900-hour employment cycle in a new position if available.Application Procedures:
