In this role you will:

• Manage, maintain and organize formulation laboratory, including chemical and equipment supply;
  
• Manage chemical inventory and Safety Data Sheet storage and archiving;
  
• Provide hands-on support for various scientific activities (manufacturing trials, establishing biology trials where formulations will be applied, and collecting data);
  
• Gather qualitative and quantitative data on formulations such as color/appearance, physical stability, pH, particle size, contact angle, viscosity, bulk density/specific gravity, etc.;
  
• Assist Formulator with batching larger quantity formulations for scale up and stability testing;
  
• Assist formulator in set up and management of formula stability, record experimental results and report them as directed;
  
• Become proficient in SMG computer software and assist in management of formulation tasks as necessary;
  
• Assist from time to time in other support activities e.g. delivering trial samples, helping with tours and at Public Relations and field day events;
  
• Prepare and arrange chemical samples for shipment and waste disposal, per DOT, EPA, and OSHA regulations as instructed.
  
• Perform all project tasks in compliance with corporate Environmental, Health, and Safety policies and principles.
  

The perfect person will have:

• AS or BA/BS degree in a science field preferred; chemistry, materials or applied science or other related field
  
• Ability to follow work instructions and test protocols
  
• Attention to detail, accuracy and basic math skills and scientific curiosity
  
• Personal drive and ability to be a self-starter and work unsupervised
  
• Ability to lift 50lb required
  
• Basic computer skills including: use of spreadsheets, word processing and email
  
• Industry experience in a laboratory setting a plus
  
• Familiarity with laboratory hoods, safety equipment, mixers, hot plates, pH meters, glassware, and basic chemical reactivity (e.g., acids, bases, flammables); mills, analytical equipment, quantitative chemical analysis background, etc. a plus
  
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
