What You Will Contribute:


The Technical Support Specialist is responsible for providing best in class technical support for all North American sales of Badger Meter product lines. This position requires the ability to interface with customers at all levels within a utility or customer site to resolve complex technical issues.

Major Job Responsibilities:

  • Respond to customer calls to the (800) support line for Badger Meter Products that relate to hardware and software questions concerning Utility, Industrial, and Specialty products. Act as the primary resource for product and application questions received by internal Badger Meter employees, external distributors, and end customers via phone and email.
  • Ability to convey complex mechanical and software related instructions to customers at all levels in a friendly, professional manner.
  • Collaborates with all functional areas within the company to resolve customer related questions with the highest degree of accuracy, effectiveness and promptness to ensure consistent technical support to our customers.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team with an ownership mentality.
  • Logs all customer calls and emails in Salesforce and provides detailed steps taken to resolve customer question.
  • Works flexible scheduled hours to meet the technical resource demands of the group.
  • Attends appropriate training and skill enhancement courses when provided.
  • If needed, works in conjunction with the Technical Support Manager to request and coordinate assistance from Marketing, Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, and Sales in resolving product performance issues.
  • As requested, provides support to Marketing relative to beta sites and product support issues for pre-release products (Note: responsibility for product support shifts from Marketing to Technical Support once product is officially released for sale.)
  • Communicates voice of customer feedback through the appropriate channels to assist in future development by recommending changes to product hardware and software.
  • Notifies the Technical Support Manager of all suggested and/or required literature, procedure, and policy updates to ensure the highest level of technical support success.
  • Validates return material authorizations for Badger Meter equipment.

Industrial Tech Support:
  • Collaborate with Customer Service to quote and configure product to meet exact customer needs based on specific application requirements

Utility Tech Support:
  • Provides pre-sale and post-sale technical support for network projects, connectivity projects and turn-key contract opportunities, including resolving technical issues that are beyond the skills of the Sales Support Managers.
  • Provides 24/7 emergency technical support through a rotational pager process.

General Responsibilities:
  • Technical customer support via phone calls, email, and WebEx
  • Escalating product issues/bugs to the appropriate functional area for further investigation
  • Maintaining technical documentation
  • Additional projects, tasks, or assignments as needed

Qualifications:
  • 3-5 years of experience in a technical support or related role supporting product/software via phone and email
  • Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or relevant experience
  • Intermediate skills in MS Word, , MS Outlook and Advanced skills in MS Excel
  • Basic programming skills
  • Advanced skills in SQL
  • Advanced skills in Networking
  • Intermediate skills in API and Salesforce

  • Thorough understanding of fluid dynamics (flow, pressure, temperature, cavitation etc.) (Industrial Tech Support)


Preferred:
  • Preferred experience in Industrial Control Installation and Wiring, flow measurement, and RF communication. (Industrial Tech Support)
  • Experience with RS485, Ethernet networking, and BAS or PLC control systems is a plus (Industrial Tech Support)
  • Preferred experience in Industrial Control Installation and Wiring, flow measurement, RF communication, Networking, and SQL Server. (Utility Tech Support)
  • Experience with API's, and cellular communication standards is a plus (Utility Tech Support)
