Background information:
Innovative Defense Technologies (IDT), provider of automated software testing, data analysis, and cybersecurity solutions for complex, mission-critical systems in the US Department of Defense (DOD), is seeking a Technical Engineering Lead to be based in our Arlington office.

Overview:
We are looking for a Technical Engineering Lead to deliver within schedule and technical performance baselines. The main role of the Technical Engineering Lead is to elicit customer requirements to engineering teams to build customer solutions, verifying project performance for all projects under the lead's responsibility.

Technical Engineering Lead responsibilities include interfacing with customers, eliciting user requirements, reviewing requirements documentation, reviewing technical specifications, coordinating product team delivery schedules across projects, and validating successful solution installations. This role also requires prior experience developing or engineering complex system.

The Technical Engineering Lead is also responsible for identifying new business opportunities within their portfolio, developing technical solutions to meet opportunity requirements for new business opportunities.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Overseeing daily technical operations
  • Assisting in training new employees and reviewing the high performing team
  • Coordinating with the development/engineering teams
  • Analyzing project briefs, requirements and deliverables
  • Preparing and presenting progress reports
  • Developing and assigning work schedules/tasks
  • Liaising with the engineering team for project completion
  • Reviewing ongoing operations and rectifying any issues
  • Communicating with the clients to ascertain their needs
  • Understanding project requirements and developing detailed structure
  • Implementing best practices and coding standards
Minimum Required Qualifications:
  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineeringor equivalent
  • Minimum 7 years experience in engineering
  • Minimum 5 years leading projects
  • 25% Travel expected
Required skills:
  • Strong verbal and written communication capability, focused on presentation to external stakeholders
  • Strong resource management skills, including early identification and resolution of capability gaps
  • Customer requirement documentation
  • Requirements elicitation, management, tracking, and auditing
  • Integration management including requirement verification, requirement burndown, issue identification, isolation, triage, resolution
  • Resource allocation, preparation, and deployment
  • Familiarity designing complex software development environments including mixed-code deployments
Preferred skills:
  • Familiarity with foundational networking concepts such as routing, switching, identity services, intrusion detection, and firewall
  • Understanding of container platforms like docker and container orchestration platforms like Kubernetes based orchestration software (e.g. OpenShift and Rancher)
  • Familiarity with tactical C2 or sensors such as Aegis, CAC2S, IBCS, SPY-1, etc system design is desired
Competencies:
  • Exceptional communication skills with new and non-technical stakeholders. The successful candidate will listen to new customer problems, identify root causes, elicit initial requirements, and continuously validate requirements throughout solution implementation
  • Strong organization, planning, and communication skills. The successful candidate will need to teach others to develop plans, build a team to complete the plan, and communicate the plan up and down the organization
  • Ability to work closely with Program Managers and Chief Engineers to document, manage and communicate systems and software requirements
  • Problem-solving skills with the ability to help others navigate ambiguous situations
  • Excellence in technical communication with peers and non-technical cohorts
  • Ability to identify and adapt to changing priorities within portfolio and business area, adjusting project resources and technical strategies to align with priorities
  • Domain expertise in any DoD combat-oriented system design, installation, operation, or maintenance
