General Description:

The Systems Administrator will be responsible for the installation, operation, administration and maintenance of systems that support the mission of the institution including Office 365, directory services, workflow automation, virtual environments, thin client solutions, and backup systems. In addition, this position will assume responsibility for operation, administration and maintenance of systems that support Instructional Technology and Distributed Learning systems as may be assigned by the Director of IT Infrastructure.

Minimum Education/Experience:

One (1) year work experience with Microsoft Infrastructure components or equivalent experience in similar environments

AND

Microsoft Technology Associate (MTA) certification within the infrastructure discipline (If candidate does not have MTA certification, she/he must attain the certification within 12 months of the date of employment and be able to show progress toward the certification within the first three months of employment. Failure to attain the MTA certification will result in a recommendation for employment non-renewal or termination.)

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Ability to diagnose problems or malfunctions and accomplish repairs in a minimal amount of time.

Ability to make independent decisions quickly in emergency situations.

Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.

Ability to make skillful, controlled manipulations of small objects such as wiring, tools, and small equipment parts.

Ability to learn job-related material through oral instruction, observation, structured lecture, and reading.

Ability to enter data or information into a computer terminal, personal computer, or other keyboard device.

Ability to perform mathematical calculations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and algebra.

Knowledge of the uses, calibration, and care of electronic test equipment, specialized test equipment and diagnostics used for troubleshooting server systems.

Knowledge of basic scripting.

Knowledge of cable distribution and basic principles of electricity.

Knowledge of standard Ethernet wiring, color coding, and connection schemes.

Ability to establish priorities for own workload.

Ability to work safely without presenting a direct threat to self or others.

Knowledge and familiarity with Microsoft Windows Server administration, e-mail systems, web-based applications, and instructional support technology.

Physical Demands/Working Conditions:

1. GENERAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Lifting up to twenty-five (25) pounds frequently, fifty (50) pounds on an occasional basis, and in excess of fifty (50) pounds with assistance.

2. PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES:
This position requires the person to frequently move about the OCCC campuses.

This position requires the person to frequently communicate with and listen to administration, faculty, staff, students, vendors, and others to perform the essential functions of the position. Must be able to exchange accurate information in various situations.

This position requires the person to frequently remain in a standing and stationary position.

This position frequently requires the person to operate a computer, other office equipment and mobile devices to perform the essential functions of the position.

This position requires the person to frequently operate equipment that involves repetitive motions of hands and wrists.

This position requires the person to occasionally ascend/descend a ladder, scaffolding, ramps, etc. to perform the essential functions of the position.

This position requires the person to frequently position self to move, lift, push, pull, grasp, work on, or operate equipment.

3. VISUAL ACUITY:
This position requires the person to judge, observe and assess the accuracy, neatness, thoroughness of work assigned or to make general observations.

4. WORKING CONDITIONS
This position's essential functions are performed both indoors and outdoors.

This position requires the person to communicate above ambient noise levels and exchange accurate information in various situations.

This position requires the person to frequently be exposed to hazards such as but not limited to: close proximity to moving mechanical parts and/or electrical current; working on scaffolding and high places; exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals, oils, and/or other cutting fluids.

This position requires the person to frequently be exposed to fumes, odors, dusts and gases associated building maintenance and operations.

This position requires the person to frequently perform essential functions in close quarters; crawl spaces; shafts; small, enclosed rooms; narrow aisles or passageways.

Preferred Qualifications:

Degree from an accredited institution of higher education in information management or related information technology field.

Advanced certification such as:
MCSA - Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate
MCSE - Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert
MCTS - *Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist
MCITP - *Microsoft Certified Information Technology Professional

*Note that the MCSA, MCSE, MCTS, or MCITP would need to be pertinent to the job in terms of specialization (Server 2008 Active Directory, Infrastructure, and Application Infrastructure or Server 2012/2016 Infrastructure discipline)

Job Duties (Duties Assignment Statement):

Install, maintain and administer Windows Server 2003/2008/2012/2016 Active Directory Services infrastructure and related systems.

Administer third-party and other related systems to the ERP system.

Administer all email systems, course management systems and distributed learning systems.

Manage, administer, and govern Office 365 tenants.

Design and implement systems improvements, and develop methodology for implementing these improvements.

Manage Microsoft server security configuration and patching.

Provision and administer user credentials, access rights, permissions and control systems.

Install, maintain and administer DHCP, DNS, web servers, FTP, SFTP, SSH, and other network services.

Perform backup administration for all server systems.

Perform technical administration tasks including application installation, configuration, patch maintenance, upgrades, change management controls and documentation.

Consult with end users on the performance aspects of the software applications and work closely with other IITS staff to evaluate, design, develop, test, and document the enhancement of existing IT resources and the integration of new information resources.

Manage and maintain SANs, thin clients, virtual servers and virtual desktop systems.

Provide technical leadership in continued development of assigned systems.

Respond to server resource monitoring alerts.

Monitor, troubleshoot and resolve daily backup process failures.

Monitor and work customer support tickets and requests.

Participate in all applicable OCCC emergency, evacuation and shelter in place drills and be prepared to take action and assist others in taking appropriate action should a health or safety emergency occur.
