Position Overview

This position is responsible for sweeping the road way or project site before, during and possibly after work is completed to ensure the road or site is clear of debris.

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

  • Drive truck to destination in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Maintain telephone or radio contact with appropriate supervisor to receive instructions.
  • Ability to follow manufacturing general maintenance schedule on a daily basis.
  • Adhere to policies and procedures as outlined in the company Transportation Manual.
  • Maintain truck log according to state and federal regulations.
  • Assist with general laboring and utility duties during Broom down time.
  • Daily inspection of truck equipment and supplies such as tires, lights, brakes, gas, oil, and water.
  • Ability to follow directions and work independently.
  • Ability to operate, or willingness to learn to operate, all types of transmissions.
  • Be familiar with and ensure proper and timely completion of equipment/vehicle condition report
  • Adhere to any and all state and federal regulations, if applicable, as set forth by the US Department of Transportation (DOT), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA), or any other regulatory agency.
  • Learn and follow safety regulations.
  • Clean or prepare sites to eliminate possible hazards.
  • Adjust handwheels and depress pedals to control attachments, such as blades, buckets, scrapers, or brooms.
  • Coordinate machine actions with other activities, positioning or moving loads and machinery within a busy environment
  • Drive and maneuver equipment in a safe manner
  • Load and move dirt, rocks, debris or other materials using a variety of equipment i.e. sweeper, shovels or related equipment.
  • Check fuel and other general maintenance on equipment
  • Maintain and clean tools, equipment, or materials to ensure items are in usable condition.
  • Engage in good work procedures and work standards that will ensure adequate performance and personnel safety
  • Perform preventive maintenance and assist in repairs as needed
  • Complete work to ensure conformance to specifications, standards, and requirements

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Education/Experience
  • Minimum high school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
  • Previous related experience in construction field is preferred.

Work Requirements
  • Pass pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check.
  • Pass a pre-employment "Fit for Work" physical.
  • Be able to provide valid documentation for the I-9 Immigration document.
  • Display a professional and courteous attitude to co-workers, supervisors and the general public at all times.
  • Report to work at the designated start time.
  • Must be willing and able to travel to work sites, which are in different locations around our division.
  • Be willing to work nights and weekends when necessary.
  • Be able to work overtime when required.
  • Be willing to work outdoors in extreme temperatures, both hot and cold.
  • Strictly adhere to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
  • Have the willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required.
  • Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) in designated operations and production areas as stated by OSHA and / or MSHA.
  • Maintain current driver's license that meets state requirements.
  • Have a safe driving record with a Motor Vehicle Record that meets company standards.
  • Be at least age 18 years of age due to nature of working environment.

The position will be primarily outside in the elements and may be required to work in inclement weather as needed.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.

Work Environment
  • Majority of work will be performed outside in conditions that may be extreme in temperature and condition.
