Responsibilities

Duties : The Supplier Quality Engineer at CNH Industrial America LLC in Burr Ridge, Illinois serves a vital role in working with suppliers in an up-front, preventative mode and in a problem-solving mode. Collaborates with suppliers and relevant internal functions such as purchasing, engineering, and the plants to guarantee the quality of components from the supply base for new product launches and for current production. Supplier Quality Engineer must be able to drive assigned platform activities to ensure on-time completion of Design reviews, PAP, Supplier selection process, and Platform launch milestones. The Supplier Quality Engineer will be responsible for investigating the teardown of mechanical driveline components with a known failure and identifying the root cause and appropriate corrective actions; reviewing the supplier process quality controls and approving the manufacturing assembly of mechanical driveline components that are being reworked; resolving chronic quality complaints related to fitment and function of machined components including reviewing component and assembly drawings, understanding the design and proposing appropriate Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) drawing controls; reviewing and investigating complaints from warranty data on mechanical supplier components and reviewing design specifications to identify if any design gaps or design improvements exists to resolve issues; investigating quality issues of safety critical steering components and auditing the supplier's equipment and process controls to verify all quality and procedure requirements are being met; analyzing supplier manufacturing and assembly processes of driveline components to identify potential risks to quality and providing solutions to eliminate risk; evaluating hydraulic valve machining and assembly processes to identify and resolve nonconformities related to defects and variations; conducting new supplier location process audits and consulting suppliers on quality control improvements; managing quality spills onsite by enforcing required shipping certifications to maintain supply and verifying containment measures; tracking and managing the resourcing/outsourcing of large, critical mechanical components including axles, transmissions, gearboxes, and suspension systems to ensure a smooth transition to production and strong quality control of assembly process; reviewing hardened driveline part designs to verify appropriate heat treatment process; ensuring post heat treatment process control and verifying part quality is not compromised; investigating and identifying causes for excess driveline system noise; reviewing tolerance stack up, fitments, alignment and gear and spline inspection data as required; and tracking supplier quality rejections. Evaluate supplier competencies, tooling, equipment, facilities and production processes. He/she will highlight supplier weaknesses and then identify, evaluate and implement recommendations to improve supplier systems, processes and performance. Travel required 30-60% of the time to domestic and international locations within North America.

Qualifications



Minimum Requirements: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a directly related field, plus five years of engineering experience in the automotive or heavy equipment industry. The five years of experience must include five years of experience with quality of driveline components from the supply base for new product launches and current production management in each of the following areas: (1) investigating/diagnosing chronic quality issues, and manufacturing challenges and implementing respective corrective actions and robust process controls; (2) PIQ/PPM metric management, controlled shipping levels, supplier and process audits, process planning and technical reviews; (3) Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) process for new program launches and follow through to Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) approval; and (4) heat treatment processes and the quality control and verification of heat-treated components including gears, shafts, and bearings. Must also have: (1) 3 years of experience in design and development of driveline components including planetary hubs, differentials, gearboxes, axles, and transmissions; (2) six months of experience with statistical software for capabilities studies; (3) 2 years of experience working with personnel at all levels of the supplier's organization; and (4) two years of experience conducting meetings with and making presentations to platform leadership, industrial leadership, and senior management.
