General Summary

Reports to Clinical Director, Administrative Director and Medical Director of COG and oversees the safe, humane and individualized delivery of quality patient care to patients from admission to discharge. Assists with the direction, supervision and evaluation of Allied Health activities and collaborates with other disciplines to guarantee continuity and quality of care.

Consistently demonstrates support of the RIC statement of Mission and Philosophy by striving for excellence, contributing to the team efforts and showing respect and compassion for patients and their families, fellow employees, and all others with whom there is contact at or in the interest of the institute.

Principal Responsibilities

  1. Schedules, directs and supervises assigned staff.
  2. Assists with interviewing, hiring, new staff orientation and training of new staff. Conducts performance appraisals, and, when necessary, disciplines and terminates assigned Allied Health Staff.
  3. Facilitates smooth and orderly admissions and patient screening processes.
  4. Ensures compliance with regulatory agency standards.
  5. Monitors staffing and productivity. Provides feedback to staff and COG leadership regarding individual and team performance.
  6. Recognizes and identifies employee needs for professional growth and development.
  7. Ensures staff competency in clinical skills necessary to support quality patient care. Refers personnel to appropriate staff, resource or written reference, or other expert opinion to develop or improve competency.
  8. Participates in the development of operating and capital budgets. Adheres to budget.
  9. Initiates and implements quality improvements in individual, team and organizational performance utilizing RICQI and other mechanisms.
  10. Maintains current knowledge of clinical practices and developments in the field by reading appropriate literature and attending seminars. Shares acquired knowledge and skills as appropriate with staff through presentation and serves as a resource to staff.
  11. Participates in the development, on-going evaluation and improvement of clinical protocols. Provides assistance to staff to ensure their understanding of and compliance with clinical protocols.
  12. Ensures that timely and high quality documentation is available for all patients. When providing direct service, completes written documentation of all patient care activities in a timely manner following protocols and utilizing RICIS and appropriate manual report forms.
  13. Performs direct patient care responsibilities as needed.
  14. Maintains environment of care through personal and staff compliance with policies and procedures, making rounds and being attentive to an environment of safe care and to having equipment in proper working condition.
  15. Proactively utilizes effective communication techniques to prevent and resolve conflict in a timely manner with patients, families and staff.
  16. Perform all other duties that may be assigned in the best interest of RIC.

Other Responsibilities

  1. Support RIC mission and philosophy through participation in and facilitation of staff activities in the areas of education and research.

Reporting Relationships

  1. Reports to Clinical Operating Group Leaders (Medical Director, Administrative Director, and Clinical Director).

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required

  1. Professional knowledge of practice and supervision, at a level generally acquired through a Bachelor's degree or degree program required for clinical licensure.
  2. Current license to practice in his/her appropriate allied health discipline as required. Current driver's license in instances where COG requires driving of self, patients, co-workers and/or supplies to carry out job responsibilities.
  3. Thirty-six months of related experience with twenty-four months progressively more responsible related experience in a rehabilitation Allied Health discipline in order to gain knowledge of organization and operation of unit and in-depth knowledge of theories and practices.
  4. Interpersonal skills sufficient for effective communication with patients, families, and institute personnel. Evidence of rehabilitation knowledge, leadership ability and communication skills.
  5. Ability to transfer and position patients, consistent with lifting up to 35 lbs.
  6. Requires analytical skills to plan and to assign work schedules, set priorities, give input on policies, procedures and budgets and to evaluate programs, new equipment and supplies.

Working Conditions

  1. Normal patient care environment with little or no exposure to dust or extreme temperature.
