Community Health Center, Inc. (CHC), with offices in Connecticut, Colorado and California, is one of the country's most creative and dynamic providers of primary medical, dental, and behavioral health services, and a leader in practice-based research, health professionals training, and use of innovative technologies to advance health and healthcare. Student Services/Admissions Program Specialist

NIMAA is an affiliate of the Weitzman Institute, a premier research institute focused on improving health care and health outcomes for special and vulnerable populations. NIMAA is an accredited post-secondary school that offers Medical Assistant (MA) training across the country.

Our goal is to prepare MAs to participate effectively in high-functioning, team-based primary care settings. NIMAA provides students an effective and low-cost educational program that introduces them to the exciting world of health, and paves the way to a career in primary health care. NIMAA's distance education (online) learning program is offered in multiple states and we partner with primary care clinics for in-clinic externship experience during the 8-month training program.

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF POSITION

The Student Services/Admissions Program Specialist takes responsibility for assuring a successful student experience through the entire student experience lifecycle including: recruiting and admissions; student support and advisory services; job placement; career counseling and alumni services. The SSAPS works closely with the academic team and Externship Organization Manager to support students and ensure effective relations with externship sites.

The SSAPS utilizes tools such as NIMAA's student information, scheduling, and other systems to best engage and support a diverse and growing student body. The SSAPS participates in NIMAA's outreach, recruitment, student onboarding efforts, support for students during the program, and placement assistance.

The SSAPS works closely with the NIMAA instructional team, Externship Organization Specialist and, as appropriate, externship organization staff, to help students succeed. The SSAPS utilizes a variety of mechanisms, including email, text and social media platforms to connect with NIMAA students and alumni on a regular basis to establish and maintain relations to avoid attrition, encourage attendance and ensure success. The Student Services/Admissions Program Specialist works with the instructional team to identify particularly at-risk students, and provides appropriate support to them.

LOCATION: Denver (preferred). Remote work possible

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsibilities for this role include, but are not limited to:

Recruitment & Admissions

  • Assist in development of a process by which externship sites and NIMAA contact interested potential students on a regular basis to encourage them to apply and connect with local organizations and schools that connect with youth and can become "feeders" to NIMAA. Collect and share best practices with externship sites.
  • Oversee the application and admissions process; monitor and improve recruitment, admissions, onboarding, advisement, placement and offboarding processes, metrics, and criteria for student acceptance/rejection; devising an admissions communication plan to both externship sites and student candidates
  • Serve as admissions representative (and registered agent) for NIMAA, and ensure adherence to accreditation standards for admissions activities
  • Manage automated (and manual) communications to applicants and during admissions process, as well as developing a process in which recent graduates are leveraged to reach out to applicants utilizing a variety of social platforms or other communication media.
  • Conduct onboarding activities with accepted applicants to support completion of required admissions forms and tasks.
  • Represent NIMAA at community events including career fairs, high school career exploration events, and events sponsored by externship organizations,

Student Success
  • Establish and maintain a personal relationship with each student beginning with the admissions and on-boarding process; establish an effective supporting relationship with them.
  • Meet with students to identify potential hurdles to student's success Utilize communication skills/advising techniques to assist students in developing a success plan.
  • Support and build strategies, using data and input from instructional and externship site personnel to identify at-risk students for rapid interventions - before serious problems emerge.
  • Maintain resources in the student center page for use by students
  • In coordination with instructional team, assess which students are most at risk on a regular basis.
  • Work with the full NIMAA team to develop student support tactics.
  • Provide advisory services to students, as needed, for issues arising due to payment, attendance, grades, skills checks, and more.
  • Build and maintain an alumni network program.

Graduate Placement
  • Create and maintain placement resources for use by students. Provide assistance to students in resume creation and job search strategies
  • Follow-up on student placements and obtain placement verification consistent with accreditation standards.


ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

With Business Manager, develop NIMAA systems for Title IV participation and advisement. Provide staff support to other NIMAA team members and external parties working on these matters. Work closely and cooperatively with the NIMAA team.

REPORTS TO: Associate Director of Education

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

The Student Services/Admissions Program Specialist will have:

An Associate's degree (Bachelor's degree preferred) Experience in advising, working with youth or adults re-entering post-secondary education or similar environment, particularly first- generation college students, and students who are black, indigenous, and people of color. Training and experience working as a Medical Assistant preferred Experience in healthcare education preferred.
