Position Summary:

This position plays a key role in establishing our external manufacturing supply base to ensure we launch new products on time and with enough capacity to meet our aggressive growth plans. This role reports to the Director of Supplier Development Engineering (SDE), the team responsible for managing our key suppliers to ensure we provide Dexcom internal manufacturing with on-time product required to support the production plan. The successful candidate will have a strong blend of technical capability, analytical thinking, collaboration skills, and supplier-related experience to be able to identify key risks in meeting our capacity roadmap goals, discover opportunities to improve efficiencies at our suppliers, and track the SDE budget to spot trends and opportunities. This position plays a critical role in gathering key cross-departmental stakeholders together (Quality, Engineering, Manufacturing, R&D, Finance, Planning) to review progress, identify risks, and establish action plans to address obstacles preventing us from reaching our goals.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supply Base Readiness
    • Develop and manage process for analyzing capacity projects to determine launch readiness relative to the installed capacity projects and launch requirements.
    • Manage, review, and maintain an External Manufacturing capacity plan that ensures Dexcom product needs are met at various launch milestones; act as the primary liaison with Supply Planning to consolidate and drive an optimized roadmap across multiple suppliers.
    • Work with key stakeholders to identify key risks to supply base readiness and facilitate daily, weekly, and monthly meetings to drive accountability and resolution to meet milestones.
    • Build/maintain capacity roadmaps for all new products requiring external manufacturing - always have a plan for what the next stage of Dexcom's growth looks like.
    • Increase productivity by streamlining the capital management process and developing automated reporting applications.
  • Supplier Performance Tracking
    • Partner with Procurement Operations to analyzing reporting metrics and KPIs, monitoring variances, identifying trends, and recommending actions to management.
    • Manage a supplier performance dashboard and work with Engineering to analyze performance trends and propose improvement opportunities, with a focus on cost reduction.
    • Gather, maintain, and analyze supplier capacity metrics and advocate areas of improvement to drive efficiency and cost reduction.
  • Budget Tracking
    • Track, review, and maintain the SDE Team's capital (CapEx) and operating expense (OpEx) budgets, working with the Finance team to reconcile monthly discrepancies, analyze trends, and provide updates.
    • As the primary point of contact with the Finance department, lead the quarterly and annual budgeting process for the SDE team.
    • Analyze trends in the SDE Team's CapEx budget and report progress and variances relative to the capacity roadmap.
    • Increase productivity by working with Finance to streamline the capital management process and developing automated reporting and budgeting applications.

Essential Skills:

  • Advanced Microsoft Excel user
  • Able to manage, compile, and analyze large data sets
  • Experience and direct responsibility in a planning role that involved creating a strategy, tracking progress, and communicating status to management (ideally related to equipment procurement).
  • Experience working directly with suppliers in a capacity involving one or more of the following: supply chain planning, contractual agreements, cost negotiations, etc.
  • Experience and understanding of basic accounting principles and finance rules as it relates to management of large capex budgets.
  • Detail oriented with ability to multi-task and maintain a strong focus on quality, accuracy and attention to detail
  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to effectively communicate using multiple forms of communication
  • Professional, timely, courteous, and highly organized
  • Ability to provide support to senior leaders, peers, and all company departments

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's in an Engineering discipline preferred with a minor in Business or Finance
  • Life science industry experience (preferred, but not required)
  • Experience managing projects
  • Expertise in using Smartsheet
  • Expertise in using Tableau for performance tracking & reporting
  • Experience with injection molding tools and/or automation equipment

Functional Description

Manages the development and implementation process of a company's products and services. Oversees multiple interconnected, complex projects, coordinates departmental or cross-functional teams, and focused on delivering new or upgrading existing products. Monitors the program from initiation through commercialization including planning and directing schedules and monitoring budget/spending to ensure successful program outcomes. May develop, define and execute project plans, identify resources, define and assign major roles, and interface with external customers or field-based employees on technical matters, as needed.

Functional/Business Knowledge

  • Possesses advanced knowledge of technical principles and theories. Recommends solutions in support of functional objectives tied to overall company objectives and strategies.

Scope

  • Demonstrates significant technical expertise, collaboration with others and independent thought. Anticipates potential complex problems requiring an in-depth evaluation. Demonstrates strategic thinking and commercial/industry understanding in functional projects.

Judgement

  • Exercises judgment in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results.
  • Determines methods and procedures on new assignments and may coordinate activities of other colleagues.

Experience and Education

  • Typically requires a Bachelors degree in a technical discipline, and a minimum of 8-12 years related experience or Masters degree and 5-7 years equivalent industry experience or a PhD and 2-4 years of experience.
