Job Description

We are hiring a 2 to 5 year environmental consultant to join our transportation and transit-focused environmental consulting group at either our Bloomington or White Bear Lake MN location. As a Staff Scientist or Staff Engineer, you will support environmental investigations and remedial actions for local and regional infrastructure projects with tasks to include soil and groundwater sample collection and technical report writing in advance of construction. You will also perform environmental monitoring during construction to assist with the management of contaminated or regulated material handling.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with data collection and report preparation for Corridor Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments.
  • Performs environmental construction monitoring for local and regional infrastructure projects with daily field reporting.
  • Conducts field screening and sampling of soil and groundwater for various environmental contaminants.
  • Implements Phase II Drilling Investigation work plans while overseeing drilling and/or excavation subcontractors, including conducting health and safety tailgate meetings.
  • Oversees implementation of remedial actions to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations/guidance.
  • Documents test results and reviews test data for accuracy and completeness.
  • Demonstrates understanding of construction-related activities and associated safe-work practices.
  • Works closely with project teams to complete projects within scope, budget, and schedule.
  • Assist regional environmental staff as needed to manage team workload.
  • Travels to local and regional project sites, as needed.


Qualifications/Skills
  • Demonstrated technical report writing experience.
  • Knowledge of Phase I and Phase II ASTM Standard Practice.
  • Must possess strong interpersonal skills and ability to work as part of a project team.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and strong problem solving abilities.
  • Ability to travel to local and regional project sites for up to two weeks at a time.
  • Experience conducting regulatory agency file reviews strongly preferred.
  • Experience supporting transportation environmental assessments is preferred.
  • Experience preparing response action implementation reports preferred.
  • Microsoft Office suite proficiency
  • Organized and detail oriented.


Education/Experience
  • Minimum 2 years of related experience supporting corridor environmental assessments and response action implementation.
  • Corridor Phase I ESA experience preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, geology, environmental studies; or related degree.
  • Must frequently lift and/or move up to 30 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move 50 pounds.
  • Must have a valid driver's license, clean driving history and be willing to use personal vehicle on company projects as required.
  • OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER training (and annual updates) is required.
  • MDH Asbestos Inspector and/or Asbestos Supervisor certification preferred.
