Meet the Team

Dexcom's Mobile Applications Team is currently seeking a Product Owner who has a strong foundation in Agile Practices, solid technical understanding of software story definition and can work in a regulated environment (preferably with experience in Medical Devices) to lead on this front. Dexcom, Inc., headquartered in San Diego, California, is focused on leveraging state-of-the-art technologies to create solutions that empower people to take control of their health.

The candidate will work with a cross disciplinary software development team working to deliver mobile apps integrated with an intricate data platform. In this role, the candidate will be responsible for partnering with product management and UX on user-centric changes and take that vision and deconstruct it into stories to populate the backlogs across the impacted components. This person is a wizard at crafting detailed acceptance criteria and managing dependencies to facilitate a dynamic of streamlined delivery to support our effective test strategies. Stakeholders include Product Managers, Program Managers, Engineers across mobile, and platform development, Architecture, Systems and Solutions, User Experience (UX), Verification and Validation (V&V), Technical Support, Regulatory Affairs and Quality Assurance teams.

Where you come in

  • Define feature development scope through use case identification with Systems & Solutions, product strategy knowledge, and technical input captured in design reviews.
  • Develop comprehensive user stories from feature requirements with clear product acceptance criteria. Work with engineering and program management to understand prioritized backlog placement across all impacted software components.
  • Work in concert with Systems & Solutions Engineers and UX to breakdown user needs from feature requirements into use cases and collaborate tightly during translation into functional and technical requirements. Recognized as a feature/product subject matter expert.
  • Demonstrates significant technical aptitude and anticipates potential problems and pursues strategies to de-risk delivery. Demonstrates strategic thinking and industry understanding.
  • Prioritize work based on project needs, task dependencies, team capacities, schedules, and delivery strategies. Participate or facilitate delivery ceremonies: refinement, daily stand ups, & retros.
  • Align with product management to define feature roadmaps based on customer demands and overarching product roadmaps paired with architecture and development team feasibility input.
  • Improve software delivery processes and identify tools to increase efficiency across the delivery cycle - keeps an eye on minimizing release overhead. Collaborates with key stakeholders to ensure design, requirements, user stories and quality documents are aligned to ensure traceability across the delivery cycle and fully support the QMS process.

What makes you successful
  • Typically requires a Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline, and a minimum of 8-12 years related experience or Master's degree and 5-7 years equivalent industry experience or a PhD and 2-4 years of experience.
  • Familiarity with software development principles and knowledge of the full lifecycle of a software development product.
  • Experience with Agile frameworks (Scrum, Kanban, Lean, etc.), Jira, PowerPoint, Excel, Jama, and Smartsheets and collaboration tools such as Lucid, Miro etc.
  • Minimum 5-7 years of related and direct experience in Product Owner, Technical Product Management, or Business Analysis area of focus.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills. Ability to articulate complex technical concepts in an easy-to-understand fashion.
  • Demonstrated product owner, technical product management or business analyst skills, with proven track record of analyzing data or requirements and using input to drive story writing and backlog definition. Ability to measure successful delivery with data.
  • Strong program, risk, schedule, communication, change, and deliverable management skills.
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams with stakeholders. Strong influential and partnering skills.
  • Broad business and technical acumen and proven experience working effectively in matrix organization and ability to collaborate effectively across geographies.
  • Integrated process, people, quality and commitment-centric approach to getting work done - strong customer service orientation and appreciation of business process
  • Possess a Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO) certification (or willingness to obtain)
  • Life science or medical device industry experience preferred
  • Prior experience building regulated software for the medical field.
