Primary Function of Position: The Sr. Manager, Sales Compensation leads a team of analysts responsible for administering the end-to-end compensation process for the Intuitive Surgical global sales organization.  This process includes calculating, processing, analyzing and reporting sales commission.  The Sales Compensation Manager will own the Intuitive Surgical incentive compensation tool.  In addition, this position will be expected to create meaningful monthly and ad hoc financial analysis for the sales management team, design and lead training on the use of our sales incentive system, and address compensation queries from the sales leaders.  The Sales Compensation Manager will also need to partner cross-functionally with the Sales, Sales Operations, HR, Finance, Accounting, external auditors, and Payroll on all elements regarding the compensation process.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Establish strong cross-functional relationships with the Sales Operations, HR, Accounting, and other organizations to ensure business alignment and accuracy
  • Drive a culture of process improvement to increase efficiency within the Sales Compensation team
  • Partner with IT to manage the Sales Incentive Compensation System and continue to improve its performance and effectiveness
  • Lead the monthly sales compensation reconciliation process
  • Initiate and lead special projects related to SOX requirements, system enhancements, and ad hoc reporting.
  • Identify, communicate, and resolve any problems affecting the proper processing of commissions and bonuses
  • Interface with senior management and Sales Operations on compensation payments outside of the compensation plan.
  • Provide guidance to design managers and sales teams on commissions plan structures, reports, policy, and other relevant processes.
  • Lead, evaluate and develop staff ensuring that goals and objectives are met.  Mentor staff with a focus on employee development and growth.
  • May travel 1 to 3 times per year as needed

Skills, Experience, Education, & Training:

  • Knowledge of incentive compensation systems and business application skills, including database, are a necessity
  • Experience working in high-growth, performance focused environments and administering complex programs.
  • Exposure to forecasting, budgeting and monthly close cycles
  • Strong management skills with experience leading a team of analysts
  • Deep interest in analyzing data and the ability to see beyond the numbers to drive sound decision-making.
  • Strong Excel skills are a necessity (pivot tables, advanced formulas, Lookup functions).
  • Knowledge of SalesForce.com
  • Strong, effective, and tactful communications skills (both verbal and written).
  • Ability to manage confidential information.
  • Minimum 7+ years of experience implementing, administering and driving complex compensation programs for rapidly growing and international businesses
  • Minimum Education: BA or BS degree (Accounting, Finance or related major preferred)
