Job Description Summary:
The Senior Research Analyst, Competitive Intelligence role sits within our Corporate Strategy Team and is responsible for leading and coordinating competitive intelligence efforts across the whole organization. They will serve the PayPal senior leadership team to ensure we stay abreast of key competitive developments in the ecosystem and develop insights over implications for our business.

Job Description:

This role will have visibility at the most senior levels of the company, reporting to the Director of Enterprise Strategy & Competitive Intelligence.Successful candidates will offer a strategic perspective, superior research skills, deep analytical capabilities, and a collaborative working style.Ability to confidently interact with and present to senior leaders will be key to the success of this role.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Maintain an up-to-date understanding of key competitors' strategies and strategic actions, discern trends as well as near- and long-term implications for PayPal, and develop a point of view on potential courses of action
  • Collaborate with different PayPal teams across Market Research, Product, Sales, Marketing, Analytics, and Investor Relations to bring together a cross-functional perspective on competitive actions and dynamics
  • Work with senior leadership from Product and Sales teams to develop perspectives on impact to PayPal from key competitors' actions and range of competitive response options
  • Coordinate deep-dive research on product experiences and go-to-market tactics that competitors are deploying
  • Synthesize competitive insights and implications for executive consumption in a way that facilitates decision making
  • Serve as the single point of aggregation for communicating all competition-related news to the PayPal senior leadership team
  • Ensure an effective dissemination of competitive intelligence insights to all relevant stakeholders across the organization
  • Periodically carry out a comprehensive competitive landscape review to facilitate discussion on PayPal strategy vis-à-vis competition
  • Maintain a central repository of competitive intelligence materials produced across all of PayPal

Preferred Education, Skills and Experience
  • 7+ years of relevant experience at sell-side equity research, top-tier management consulting, buy-side equity research, or corporate strategy
  • MBA or relevant degree from world-class academic institution
  • Superior analytic capabilities with strong insight and understanding of how a business operates
  • Talent for simplifying complex ideas and communicating them in ways others can easily understand (both verbally and via email/PowerPoint)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work in a dynamic environment and deliver impact in a timely manner
  • Adept project management skills to drive towards output creation in a cross functional setting
  • Comfortable interacting with senior stakeholders across Product, Sales and Marketing. Ability to ask the right questions and push the thinking where required
  • Experience in financial services / payment industry preferred
