About the role:

WEG Electric Corp. has a great opportunity for a Sr. Electrical Engineer to join our team in Barre, VT. This role is responsible for specification, implementation, and validation of Utility Wind Turbine Converters to meet both the needs of the current utility scale wind turbine market and to inform the future needs of the market.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Power converter specification, modeling and analysis.
  • Qualification and validation of converters at suppliers and in turbine production/testing.
  • Prepare and manage the converter documentation package including, requirements, specs, analyses, data sheets, test procedures, etc�
  • Participate in Turbine Stage Gate and Design Development Process (leading and attending design reviews, developing and verifying system requirements).
  • Provide technical Guidance to integrate wind power plant into the grid without impacting stability and reliability.
  • Ensure WEG's Power Converter can be certified to IEC6140.
  • Participate in cross-functional teams developing control functionalities for power systems mainly related to wind turbine and power plant controllers.
  • Define the electrical system of the turbine and the adequate protection functionaly (TT / IT system / quantity of secondary circuits, ground fault detection).
  • Other duties and tasks as assigned.

Education:
  • Graduate level degree in Electrical Engineering.

Knowledge / training:
  • Knowledge of relevant grid and control system modelling software (e.g., Matlab, Simulink, PSpice, PSS/E).
  • Understanding of power electronics, analog and digital electronic systems, power distribution, controls, rotating electric machines, vector control of machines, and general wind turbine technology.
  • Familiarity with electrical and safety standards related to large machinery and grid connected machinery.
  • Familiarity with variable frequency drive/ machine interrelationships.
  • Familiarity with test methods for high power rotating machines.
  • Power system time domain and frequency domain modeling and stability/transient analysis.
  • Software and programming skills (C, C+, Python, Jira, SourceTree, Git, etc.).
  • Thorough knowledge of MS Office appilications, including Access, Word and Excel.

Experience:
  • Minimum of 5 years� combined experience in the following:
    � Wind Turbine Converter and Power System modelling using MATLAB/Simulink.
    � Specification, integration, and testing of power converters over 100kW.
    � Developing motor drives and power conversion systems.
    � Modelling generator/converter harmonics.
    � Grid modeling and grid-connected power generation including LVRT.
    � Working within a Quality Management System.
