Position Summary

The Sr Cloud Infrastructure Engineer is a high impact role directly contributing to the vision and roadmap of the firm's public and private cloud strategy. This leader will help drive the design, architecture, and delivery model of our global cloud strategy. In addition, responsibilities will include ongoing support and maintenance of deployed solutions, as well as driving continued improvements and operational excellence. The role will drive new cloud technology evaluation, adoption, and governance standards development across the operations and engineering teams. Will work with cross-functional teams to accomplish the common goal of delivering effective, innovative, and reliable public and private cloud services to the firm and its investors. The successful candidate will have exceptional technical acumen with a proven track record of delivering innovative private and public cloud solutions at a global scale.

Key Duties/Responsibilities

Public/Private Cloud Engineering, Strategy, Vision, and Roadmap

  • Partner with key stakeholders to develop short and long-term strategies, vision, and roadmap for the global cloud infrastructure, with a focus on cloud technology innovation to meet business goals
  • Build roadmaps, design and lead implementation of cloud-based capabilities and technologies including containers, serverless, infrastructure-as-code, and cloud orchestration/automation.
  • Work alongside project teams, enterprise architects, infrastructure, networking, and security teams to develop logical & technical cloud security architectures, API designs, and functional requirements for secure AWS environments.
  • Provide guidance and thought leadership to development teams to expand cloud competencies.
Operational Excellence and Service Delivery
  • Part of the Operations and Engineering team responsible for maintaining a globally distributed 24x7x365 public and private cloud environment.
  • Review IT processes, specifically focused on operations and cybersecurity (e.g. vulnerability management, identity management, disaster recovery, data protection, software development) and uplift these to be effective in an AWS environment.
  • Benchmark and model cloud capability maturity against industry, regulatory standards, and common frameworks (NIST CSF, NIST 800-53, Cloud Security Alliance, ISO 27000).

  • Oversee and manage the day-to-day operations of Carlyle's AWS environment, including working with Operational Support teams to monitor, manage and respond to incidents in the environment.
  • Contribute technical expertise on complex problems, technology selection, solution design, deployment, and maintenance.
  • Subject matter expert and escalation point for major cloud infrastructure incidents.
  • Establishes an effective service delivery model with properly defined and communicated service levels.
  • Communicates effectively with both technical staff and senior leadership.
  • Develop collaborative relationships with peers and business partners

  • Established key performance indicators and metrics measuring global infrastructure performance, heath, capacity, and spend.
  • Manages incident, problem, knowledge, release, configuration, and change management across private and public cloud infrastructure.
  • Mentor and train operations and engineering team members on cloud operational standards and best practices.
Core Services Product Management
  • Oversees core public cloud infrastructure product lifecycle, feature adoption, release management, and innovation.
  • Will work with key stakeholders to understand business needs to prioritize feature development and release.
  • Continued delivery of services and products driving improved firm capabilities and productivity (CI/CD).
  • Adopts Agile principles in the delivery of new products and services.
Vendor Relationship Management
  • Manages cloud vendors and service providers with focus on vendor performance and relationship management.
  • Participates in evaluation and selection of service providers that best align with firm goals of business agility and continued value delivery.
  • Negotiates with vendors and service providers to ensure favorable terms for the firm.


Qualifications

Knowledge and Experience
  • 10+ years of overall relevant IT experience required.
  • 8+ years of experience in a hands-on technical engineering role.
  • 5+ years of experience in managing cloud infrastructure at a global scale.
  • 5+ years of experience working with public cloud providers, specifically AWS and Azure.
  • 5+ years of governance experience in public and private cloud environments.
  • 3+ years of experience with single sign-on and identity management solutions.
  • 5+ years of experience with cloud security.
  • 5+ years of experience with adhering to regulatory compliance standards (e.g. SOX, GDPR, FINRA, SEC).
  • Strong experience architecting, implementing, and managing AWS technologies such as Control Tower, CloudFormation, VPCs, EC2, S3, RDS, GuardDuty, Transit GWs, Direct Connect, VPNs, Lambda, SageMaker, ECS, Fargate, Route53, IAM, SSO, CloudTrail, CloudWatch, PrivateLink, ELB, AWS Backup)
  • Strong experience deploying solutions adhering to well architected framework.
  • Strong experience implementing cloud DevOps and CI/CD environments.
  • Strong experience with automation tools such as Jenkins, RPA, Chef, Puppet, Ansible, Systems Manager Automation.
  • Expert knowledge with designing and implementing disaster recovery/business continuity solutions.
  • Experience managing highly available database environments.
  • Strong experience delivering technology solutions globally.
  • Demonstrated success in leading large-scale global initiatives/transformations.
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills.
  • Strong process management and problem resolution skills.
  • Proven ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
  • Ability to effectively and confidently communicate and present complex topics to stakeholders of different levels and backgrounds.
  • Experience with Enterprise Microsoft Technologies (Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Server OS, Office 365 Services) a plus.
  • Experience with LAN, WAN, SDWAN, VoIP/Cloud Voice Solutions and data center networking technologies a plus.
  • Experience and understanding of virtualization technologies, specifically VMware and AHV a plus.
  • Data science and analytics experience a plus (AI, ML, data lakes, etc).
  • Python and shell scripting desired.
Education and Certifications
  • Bachelor's Degree required
  • Degree in Information Technology, or similar discipline, strongly preferred
  • Industry standard certifications preferred
  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect certification preferred.
  • VMware Certified Professional desired.
  • Microsoft Certification desired.
  • Data analytics training desired.
