Speech Language Pathology- Visiting Instructor

Position Overview:

The Instructor is a faculty member who supports the Speech-Language Pathology program through duties including assisting with supervision, documentation, and the coordinator of clinical services in addition to teaching discipline specific courses. The Instructor provides a quality learning experience for students; teaches, advises and mentors students, evaluates student performance, and maintains department and student records in accordance with university policies. Adheres to the educational philosophy of the university. Works in a collaborative manner with colleagues and professional peers. Participates in university meetings that relate specifically to faculty. Faculty report to a dean or chair and performs instruction-related duties and responsibilities in a timely manner and in accordance with the mission, policies, and procedures of the college.

**Note** This is a full-time, non-tenure track position and will be for one academic year, Fall 2022 and Spring 2023. The salary for this position is commensurate with credentials and experience.

College/Department Overview:

The College of Education and Professional Studies currently has 100 full-time and over 100 part-time faculty organized in seven departments. The college offers 23 undergraduate majors and 28 graduate majors. All teacher education programs are CAEP accredited. Other programs are recognized at the state and national level with accreditation by the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), the American Dietetic Association (ADA), the American Speech-Language Hearing Association (ASHA), the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), the National Council on Family Relations (NCFR), and the Oklahoma Educational Quality and Accountability Commission (OEQA). UCO's College of Education and Professional Studies has an enrollment of nearly 4,800 students, about one-fourth of whom are graduate students. Department Specific Essential Job Functions:

  • Teach graduate and undergraduate courses in the Speech-Language Pathology (SLP) Program that may include hybrid and online delivery modalities as appropriate. Area of interest is open.
  • Supervise SLP undergraduate and graduate students in onsite and/or off-site clinical practicum as needed. Supervision may include teletherapy and/or virtual case simulations.
  • Optional summer term teaching and/or supervision may be available
  • Mentor and advise students
  • For candidates holding a doctoral degree, or who are in the process of completing a doctoral degree (ABD), scholarly activities including independent research are expected
  • Participate in service to the Program, Department, College, and University
  • This position is for Fall 2022 and Spring 2023 terms only
Qualifications

Experience Required:

  • Must have 3+ years of progressively responsible experiences in chosen field or combination of relevant experience and education.
  • Must hold ASHA CCC-SLP and hold or qualify to hold Oklahoma license in Speech-Language Pathology.
  • Minimally, an earned Master's degree awarded by a regionally accredited or internationally recognized institution in the field specified in the position announcement (exceptions require Academic Affairs approval).
  • Possesses excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.

Experience Preferred:

  • Previous teaching experience in higher education environment is preferred.
  • Ability to mentor students in evaluating clinical effectiveness through clinical research projects.
  • Previous experience in teletherapy service delivery and/or virtual case simulations.
  • Candidate would provide evidence of teaching effectiveness/excellence.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Candidate must be professionally qualified under ASHA with CCC-SLP certification and a minimum of three years of experience and the ability to maintain ongoing professional credentials.
  • Skill in teaching, team building, coaching, mentoring, supervision, conflict resolution, delegation, problem-solving, and understanding diversity.
  • Able to comply with the UCO Employee and Faculty Handbook.
