A.T. Still University's School of Osteopathic Medicine in Arizona (ATSU-SOMA) invites applications for the position of a full-time, exempt Assistant/Associate Professor of Microbiology on the Mesa, Arizona campus. Faculty members in the Department of Biomedical Science contribute to the mission of ATSU-SOMA and education of medical students through support of student-directed learning of basic and clinical sciences through extensive use of clinical cases in a small group setting. Additionally, participation in supplemental large group interactive sessions may be required. Faculty members are also expected to share responsibility for the development of course materials that will be used in the first two years of the curriculum. Scholarly activity, which may take the form of bench, clinical or educational research, often in collaboration with peers, is also expected as part of faculty growth and development and advancement. Service to the institution, the community and professional field is also essential.
This position reports directly to the Chair of the Department of Biomedical Science.
Major job duties and responsibilities:The following is a list of academic responsibilities that may be required as a full-time member of the Department of Biomedical Science:
Must possess required knowledge and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the following essential functions of the job can be performed.
Education and experience equivalent to: Doctorate level degree in the discipline of microbiology and at least two (2) years of teaching experience at a medical college level required.
Physical demands:The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; talk or hear. The employee must have the ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities include ability to distinguish the nature of objects by using the eye.
Work environment/Safety:Employee is responsible for performing duties in an environment that is free from discrimination, intimidation, coercion or harassment, including sexual harassment. Work is performed indoors in an office setting and outside of the office at local community outreach sites. The noise level in the work environment is low to moderate.
