A.T. Still University's School of Osteopathic Medicine in Arizona (ATSU-SOMA) is seeking an exempt Assistant/Associate Professor of Medical Education on the Mesa, Arizona campus. This position reports to the chair department of medical humanities. The professor will facilitate student small groups on regular basis; medical education research; service in areas of faculty development and interprofessional education (IPE).

Job Duties

Teaching

  • CBIQ Facilitator 0.25 FTE
  • Faculty Advisor for 5-10 OMS I annually

Research
  • Conduct medical education research
  • Present and publish research related to medical education
  • Prepare grant proposals related to medical education

Service
  • Serve as Director of SOMA Faculty Development and IPE
  • Prepare, disseminate, and review results of annual SOMA faculty/Regional Director of Medical Education (RDME) annual faculty development needs assessment
  • Prepare periodic faculty development presentations on topics based on faculty/RDME annual needs assessment data
  • Manage online didactics related to the SOMA Faculty Development Program
  • Prepare faculty development reports for Higher Learning Commission accreditation and Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation
  • Plan and manage the Annual SOMA Faculty Development Conference and evaluations pertaining to it
  • Collaboration on faculty development with University and outside institutions
  • Prepare grant proposals related to faculty development
  • Design and maintain SOMA’s new-hire faculty orientation process
  • Develop annual faculty development goals and manage budgeted funds
  • Develop faculty resources for learning-centered education
  • Share expertise regarding learning and teaching theory
  • Present and publish research related to faculty development
  • Chair the SOMA Faculty Development Advisory Committee
  • Attend annual AACOM Educating Leaders conference
  • Additional duties as assigned
  • Design and manage SOMA interprofessional education activities
  • Plan and coordinate IPE activities for OMS I & II
  • Collect annual data on OMS III & IV participation in IPE activities
  • Prepare interprofessional education reports for Higher Learning Commission accreditation and Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation
  • Annually assess SOMA student IPE knowledge, attitudes, and activities
  • Work with ATSU IPE Director to coordinate SOMA student participation in IPE activities
  • Collaborate on IPE with in ATSU and with outside institutions/organizations

Job Responsibilities     
  • Facilitate student small group sessions;

  • Collaborate regarding interprofessional faculty development with outside institutions
  • Train SOMA faculty
  • Continuously explore and share best teaching and learning practices
  • Document faculty development progress and CQI

Skills/Requirements
  • Doctoral degree in an education-related field
  • Three to five years experience
    • Faculty Development experience
    • Education technology experience
    • Academic writing and research skills
    • Ability to organize and run meetings, build team workflow
    • Ability to teach, work with other faculty to design learning modules, implement curricula
    • Medical education experience
    • Prior experience with Learning Management Systems
    • Interprofessional Education experience
  • Small groups facilitation skills
