Your Role:

We are currently seeking a Robotics and Software Engineer for the Single Use and Systems group in BioProcessing Research and Development, within MilliporeSigma Process Solutions business unit. As a part of the R&D organization, you will help specify and troubleshoot the controls and software code on new automated assembly equipment for manufacturing of novel products used in the processing and purification of pharmaceutical and biotech product streams. Ultimately this position will allow for the successful development of automated equipment for the manufacture of our single use products with the goal of transfer into manufacturing.This position will be based at out Bedford, MA campus.

  • Participate on new product development teams
  • Contribute as the primary person responsible for onboarding new process equipment
  • Implement automation system configurations
  • Write/edit code for automated production equipment
  • Test designs and ideas in lab environment
  • Interface with other engineers and groups within the organization
  • Work closely with internal team members and with external vendors to execute construction and debug of custom assembly equipment designed for automation
  • Maintain proper documentation and revision history of machine code

Who You Are:

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Robotics and/or Mechatronics or related technical field
  • 5+ years of direct experience working on automated processes/system integration within a manufacturing environment
  • 5+ years of experience with technologies, such as PLCs (Allen-Bradley, Rockwell), HMIs, SCADA (FactoryTalk, LabVIEW), Servo Control, or Machine Vision, etc. within a GMP environment

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree
  • Familiarity with machine safety applications, electrical power distribution and control panel design
  • A solid understanding of engineering documentation such as P&IDs, process flow diagrams and standard operating procedures
  • 5 years of experience developing software code for robotics system in C/C++.Internship and class projects are acceptable
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience designing and implementing software for robotic systems in new applications
  • Solid understanding of communications networks such as RS-485, Ethernet, Zigbee
  • Ability to analyze and select new software platforms to support Industry 4.0 manufacturing
  • Working knowledge of Linux programming, Network programming, and Python programming
  • Demonstrate ability to manage internal customer and external vendor relationships
  • Proficient in engineering, problem solving, experimental design and data analysis
  • Self-motivated, enthusiastic, and can interact effectively with people in all areas of the company including R&D, plant operations, quality, purchasing, and product management.
  • Sound understanding of mechanical, electrical and software components required to operate robots for medical goods manufacturing.
  • Understanding of mechanical constraints in differential drive robots,
  • Basic comprehension of electrical schematics and circuits
  • Capability to effectively read sensor and actuator datasheets and
  • Understanding of software state-machine architecture and design, real-time scheduler, multi-threaded and object-oriented programming
  • Ability to design for the life cycle of the equipment: (a)Start-up, (b)Process optimization, (c)Steady state manufacturing, (d)Calibration and maintenance, (e)Decommissioning and (f)Repurposing
  • GAMP & Validation
  • Solid understanding of industrial control panel design and fabrication
  • Demonstrate excellent team leadership abilities and interpersonal skills
  • Hands on skills to build and troubleshootproduct/process issues
  • Ability to multi-task and manage time effectively
  • Proficient with written and verbal technical communication including generating reports and conducting group presentations
