Purpose of Role

The Shift Manager is responsible for imparting Rehrig Pacific•s vision, mission, and values to every production team member within the manufacturing facility. Through effective leadership and management, they must drive the critical performance metrics of Safety, Job Training, Hiring and Onboarding, Growth and Development as well as perform high level root cause analysis on identified improvement opportunities. The Shift Manager, who at times may be the highest leadership position within the plant during evenings or weekends, must effectively collaborate and communicate with peers as well as other cross-functional teams in reliability, quality, shipping, and planning. Shift Managers oversee Floor Assistants, Product Movers, and Operators.

Areas of Accountabilities

People Development and Engagement

  • Coach, mentor, and lead shift team members and Rehrig Pacific employees in accordance with our Core Values and Strategic Vision.
  • Follow standards for employee onboarding and maximize the first minute experience.
  • Develop a continuous process for recognition that drives company values, motivates, and retains associates.
  • Complete quarterly KA reviews for all associates, detailed annual PEAs, and continuous value-added feedback.
  • Identify the training needs of team members and provide opportunities for skill development. Implement training programs to enhance the capabilities of the team.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive work environment. Encourage open communication, collaboration, and teamwork.
  • Establish a process to ensure the team is appropriately staffed and skilled to meet organizational goals. Plan for recruitment, succession, and talent development.

Production Shift Team Operations and Productivity
  • Demonstrate safety leadership and maintain a safe working environment for all employees. Lead by example and drive accountability for safety within the production team by increasing team safety awareness, ensuring use of safe work practices and compliance with safety rules, and taking immediate action to resolve safety concerns.
  • Coordinate work schedules of your assigned shift, engaging staffing agencies as needed to support fluctuating labor requirements set by the production manager.
  • Ensure work is completed to the required standards of productivity, quality, and timeliness.
  • Delegate tasks effectively, considering the strengths and skills of team members. Ensure that workloads are balanced and aligned with individual and team capabilities.
  • Oversee day-to-day operations, manage priorities, and ensure the team is aligned with organizational goals. Implement processes and systems to optimize workflow and productivity.
  • Lead plant cleanliness, Food Safety requirements and organizational methods, (5S) expectations and practices.
  • Identify and act on lead measures to support plant achievement of scrap reduction and cycle efficiency targets.
  • Employ lean management tools for housekeeping, process improvement, and accountability.
  • Manage the planning and deployment of resources within the shift to efficiently meet customer expectations.

Communication and Relationship Building
  • Monitor production performance indicators and take appropriate action to identify root cause of variances, engaging technical teams or management as necessary for resolution.
  • Communicate effectively with team members and other stakeholders. Clearly convey expectations, goals, and organizational updates. Foster a culture of open and transparent communication.
  • Ensure end-of-shift reports are sent out daily.
  • Perform shift handoff meeting with other shift managers.
  • Address conflicts and issues within the team promptly and constructively. Mediate disputes, facilitate discussions, and promote a positive working environment.
  • Build strong relationships with team members to understand their needs, concerns, and aspirations. Cultivate a sense of trust and mutual respect.

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

  • Preferred 3+ years of experience managing people in a manufacturing environment.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Preferred 1+ years of injection molding experience.
  • Excellent Leadership Skills including strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Technical aptitude • basic understanding of (or ability to quickly learn) mechanical systems, tooling, & plastic manufacturing.
  • Experience with JDE system a plus.
  • The ability to interact with and train a diverse group of personnel.
  • Ability to work cross functionally.
