Summary

SUMMARY

Set-Up Tech II position requires a combination of advanced level knowledge and ability to perform the setting up of molds for the molding process as well as auxiliary and secondary equipment associated with the process, along with basic to intermediate level molding process skills. This position requires technicians to be flexible and self-motivated to perform mold changes, mold start-ups, shut downs, color changes, and various set-up functions. Set-up Tech II personnel may be assigned duties and responsibilities of Process Technician overseeing a group of machines. In this position, job duties require good basic verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to lead small group activities.

Essential Functions

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Performs all Set-Up Tech I responsibilities including mold preparation, mold removal, mold installation, and robot and secondary equipment set-up.
  • Ensures all safety standards are maintained including shop organization and housekeeping. Eliminates safety hazards that he/she is able to correct and writes up all other safety hazards.
  • Set-Up Tech II must ensure that molds are producing proper quality parts when assigned an area to monitor.
  • Perform all required quality checks and procedures in a consistent and timely manner.
  • Ensures that machines are up and running, meeting or exceeding cycle efficiency standards.
  • Utilizes and updates cycle run data on a regular daily basis and troubleshoots processing problems as they arise. Documents changes and results.
  • Organizes work flow and coordinates color/material changeovers to minimize downtime in assigned area.
  • When assigned to a group of machines, Set-Up Tech II person must meet all Process Technician's job description requirements and also takes initiative to assist in performing mold changes.
  • Responsibility to complete production data/cycle sheets, fill out Q.C. first article and product inspection reports, write mold repair orders, maintenance Maximo repair requests, run history logs, etc.
  • Interacts with other Set-Up Tech team members and also supports department personnel to optimize productivity and minimize downtime. This often requires technicians to take initiative to follow up and help coordinate efforts of those involved.
  • Contributes daily efforts to maintain clean work areas, including machinery.
  • Performs minor type maintenance as required, for example; replaces leaky water hoses, fills chillers, makes nozzle/heater band changes, performs minor EOA repairs, replace auxiliary equipment (gamma flux, chillers, thermolators, conveyors), etc.
  • Maintain reliable and consistent attendance, including being punctual, and dependable in order to meet the needs of the department and the organization.
  • Execute each essential duty satisfactorily in order to perform job successfully.
  • Follows all safety procedures required in work area, wears PPE as needed, attends all safety meetings, and reports safety issues regarding equipment or unsafe/hazardous conditions.
  • Performs effectively as a team member, able to work well with others, open to receive and give feedback, and treats everyone with respect.
  • Takes ownership of own work and behavior, accepts accountability for own actions, encourages solutions, and communicates status of work/projects.
  • Follow all department quality standards/criteria. Raise concerns and issues to immediate manager.
  • Able to understand and demonstrate Cambro company culture, display company core values (Safety, Quality, Respect, and Service).
  • Understands department's key performance indicators and contributes to achieve these goals both individually and as a team.
  • Other duties as needed or required.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Must be able to work overtime as needed, remain flexible and open to possible schedule changes in order to meet business needs.

In this position you may be required to:
  • Occasionally walk, standing, bend at the neck and/or waist, squat, climb, kneel, twist at the neck and/or waist, use hands repetitively for simple and power grasping, fine manipulation, pushing & pulling, reaching above and below shoulder level, carrying/lifting up to 75 lbs.
  • Drive cars, forklifts, and other equipment.
  • Work around equipment and machinery.

  • Face shields
  • Mask in accordance with company policy
Requirements

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or two to three years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Intermediate knowledge of the injection molding process, plastic resin, molds, and machinery.
  • Troubleshooting skills to identify and resolve basic processing/quality issues.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of an organization.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Must have valid class C license for forklift certification
  • Must have knowledge and ability to perform all aspects of the material handler, and set-up positions.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Previous mechanical/electrical/hydraulics training or experience helpful.
  • Scientific Injection Molding, Paulson Practical Injection Molding (Intermediate)
  • Previous packer position experience is helpful
