POSITION SUMMARY:

The set-up technician properly sets up jobs in any press/machine including, but not limited to inserting/installing dies, tables, conveyors, welding fixtures, tapping fixtures, etc. Completes set-ups in accordance with standard procedures and work center layouts to maximize machine utilization. Verifies set-up by inspecting parts.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for accurate set-ups, start-ups and process monitoring.
  • Performs troubleshooting, makes adjustments and improvements to support operators and enhance machine performance.
  • Produces and inspects parts using various machines and equipment to meet or exceed production and quality standards while minimizing scrap.
  • Performs changeovers, changes dies/die blocks, etc.
  • Communicates job expectations and requirements to operators including quality requirements, work order specifications, production rate, etc.
  • Ensures all necessary documentation is available and correct in accordance to specified procedures and timelines.
  • Performs material handling, monitoring of equipment and minor maintenance.
  • Monitors production for accuracy and efficiency and works with quality department to sure part quality/performance.
  • Responsible for maintaining a safe and clean work environment.
  • All other duties as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Minimum of three (3) years technical experience with strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Knowledge of hydraulics, electrical, pneumatic and mechanical systems for machinery.
  • Knowledge of automatic press operation, manually fed press operation, grinders, drill presses, bender, etc.
  • Knowledge of welding.


OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Must possess valid, current forklift certification.
  • Must have experience operating overhead crane.
  • Ability to read blueprints.
  • Ability to use the required personal protective equipment at all times.
  • Moderate computer skills.
  • Ability to communicate in English.
  • Ability to use basic math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplying, dividing, counting and the use of tape measure.
  • Ability to read and understand all safety operating procedures and to use all safety features and equipment.

  • Requires ability to walk, stand, carry materials, stoop, kneel, bend at waist, and climb ladders or equipment.
  • Maximum unassisted lift - 50 lbs.

  • Occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes, airborne particles, and chemicals.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud and requires hearing protection.
  • Safety shoes and eye protection are also required.
  • Temperature environment 0 degrees to 110 degrees.
