Description:
Facilitates smooth operations of a patient service area by providing clerical support for healthcare team members, patients, and families on an inpatient unit.

Position Responsibilities:

COMMUNICATION - Facilitates communication with and between staff members, patients, and family members to ensure that information related to patient conditions and concerns is relayed in a timely manner. Access and operates paging system, phones, call lights, and internal Information Technology Help Desk to locate and communicate with staff and maintain smooth operation of unit.

ORDERING/INVENTORY - Inventories supplies and orders basic floor stock, computer supplies and drugs to ensure uninterrupted operation of unit. Assists in maintaining computer equipment by contacting help desk or other technical resources when needed.

MEDICAL RECORDS - Enters data into computer, prepares new patient charts for admissions, and ensures appropriate forms and paperwork are in order to maintain accurate medical records. Audits charts to identify missing or incomplete records. Processes and requisitions patient care service orders based on physician orders and instruction from professional staff. Processes completed records following patient discharge.

Monitors visitor access to unit in compliance with security policy.

Monitors sibling visitation by administering sibling screening form and ensuring immunization record is available.

Work consists of duties involving several related sequential steps, processes or methods. Duties require consideration of factors and conditions that are apparent and readily verifiable. (Ex.Occupational Therapy Asst, Echo Tech, LPN, Clerk, Secretary)

Work has moderate impact on a specific area. Substantial impact on student or patient

well-being, comfort or convenience. (Ex. LPN, Accounts Payable Clerk, Admin Asst, Supervisor)

Specific, detailed instruction provided for new or difficult assignments. Employee performs

recurring tasks independently.

Position Requirements:

Minimum Education:

Required: High School Diploma

Preferred: High School Diploma plus training acquired through work experience or education

Minimum Experience:

Required: Less than one year of previous job-related experience

Preferred: 1-2 years of previous job-related experience
