Job Description

Senior UX Researcher/Designer - REMOTE position

Flexion is seeking a Senior User Experience Researcher/Designer to join a cross functional Agile development team.

Why you want to work at Flexion:

We're looking for a UX Researcher/Designer with an unwavering passion for understanding users and designing meaningful, easy-to-use applications. Most of the work we do is on large-scale, enterprise-wide systems (both commercial and government)-this project includes the development and maintenance of a data management system which supports the management and oversight of grant recipient organizations and program operations at the local, state, regional and national levels.

At Flexion (an Agile software company that's been delivering excellence for over 24 years), our company culture is built on autonomy, trust, and transparency. We empower teams to remain autonomous and self-directed by hiring people who can solve complex problems by functioning collaboratively-this means lending a hand and flexing your multi-skilled muscles (research, content, business analysis, information architecture, etc.) as needed. Every member within a cross-functional team is a leader who takes responsibility for the entire team's success, which mirrors the company's overall low bureaucracy structure.

What the job looks like:

As a member of a cross-functional Agile development team, you'll partner with our clients to tackle holistic business and user problems. You'll help build Human-Centered Design thinking into everything the team does.

Specifically, you'll:

  • Lead and facilitate continuous discovery and research to understand user needs, stakeholder goals, technical constraints, and generate insights that shape the user experience.
  • Frequently collaborate with a cross-functional team in design ideation, evaluation, and refinement activities.
  • Iteratively research, design, prototype, and user test elements of a system at various stages of development
  • Analyze client and user feedback to identify opportunities to improve the overall user experience throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Use a variety of human centered design methods like content audits, heuristic reviews, user journeys, card sorting, creating personas, and process modeling.
  • Effectively communicate goals, designs, research findings, user feedback, and requirements to team members and client stakeholders.
  • Evaluate digital products using Section 508/WCAG 2.2 accessibility requirements and coach other team members on accessibility best practices.
  • Drive the development and enhancement of reusable design systems.

Flexion is a remote first company. It is imperative that you have a reliable internet connection. We rely on Zoom for meetings and communications. We strive to balance "heads down" time with active engagement and find "cameras on" can help our teams be present and build relationships. Some travel to client sites may be requested. You must reside in the United States of America.

Why we want to hire you:

You have a passion for using and coaching human centered design techniques and Lean UX methods. You iteratively and incrementally drive learning and development by embracing Agile methodologies. You excel at designing small pieces, while still thinking about how they fit into the whole.

You love solving big business and user problems. You can balance high-level strategy with detail-oriented tactics. You're just as at home leading a discovery session with C-level executives as you are sketching prototype ideas in a design studio session. You actively co-create designs and solutions throughout the process.

You're a self-starter and don't need to be told what to do next. You have a wide range of UX-related skills and can flex different muscles as required. You value consistency-but also know when to customize user experiences to improve usability. You value data-driven decision-making, but won't become paralyzed if the data doesn't exist.

You are eager to lend a hand with testing, documentation, or other tasks needed to get the product in front of users quickly. You love working collaboratively, sharing knowledge and learning from others across your team and the greater Flexion ecosystem. You aren't afraid to step up to help the organization when you see a need.

You have:

  • At least 5 recent years working on UX designs for clients
  • At least 2 recent years experience working with Agile methodologies
  • A Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Computer Science or a related field or equivalent experience
  • An interest in performing research and design work collaboratively with other team members and stakeholders
  • A "can do" attitude devoid of ego
  • Successfully coached teams and clients
  • Superb time-management, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Experience conducting user interviews and usability testing
  • Experience analyzing, drawing, and sharing insights from interview data.
  • Experience designing for complex data systems and enterprise applications
  • Experience designing and documenting user interactions and user flows
  • Experience designing prototypes at varying levels of fidelity; sometimes on-the-fly
  • Experience using prototyping tools such as Mural and Figma, or similar tools.
  • Using workflow and modeling tools such as Mural, LucidChart, etc
  • Knowledge of responsive design principles
  • Experience auditing digital products using for Section 508 accessibility compliance.

The compensation for this role ranges from $110,000 to $130,000 annually.
