Job Summary:

Benjamin Moore & Co., a Berkshire Hathaway company, is a leading manufacturer of innovative, high-quality coatings for the architectural and industrial maintenance markets. We are currently seeking a Senior Scientist (Coatings Technology) to join our Product Development team.

In this role, you will collaborate with a team of high-caliber scientists that are responsible for the development of new, cutting-edge coatings technologies and next-generation coatings products. The position requires a high degree of analysis, innovation and creative problem-solving. Projects assigned will be motivating and challenging in nature. Key Responsibilities:

  • Investigate and evaluate new coatings methods, technologies and competitive trends across a broad variety of industries
  • Identify, explore and prove the feasibility of novel product chemistries
  • Plan, develop and implement scientifically designed experiments from feasibility to commercialization
  • Monitor and supervise all stages of product development, from lab to production scale-up batches
  • Collaborate with product development and commercialization groups
  • Collaborate with marketing on new product concepts
  • Drive results to focus on delivering customer value and show a dedication to continuous improvement
  • Document inventions and identify intellectual property potential
  • Collaborate with procurement to identify and evaluate new and alternative materials
  • Contribute to projects beyond their immediate responsibilities
  • Manage, train and mentor team members

Desired Experience / Qualifications:
  • Ph.D. in chemistry, material science, or related field with 5+ years of working experience in coatings formulation
  • An expert in the subject area with experience in leading across R&D teams
  • Ability to prove and develop commercial products from concepts
  • Self-directed and motivated work independently, driving projects to completion
  • Proven history of managing complex and multiple projects, prioritizing and meeting timelines.
  • Analytical thinking and problem-solving skills, using scientific and analytical tools in developing products
  • Detailed-oriented with strong organizational skills
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
