Purpose

This highly skilled individual will part of the group of Field Engineers in the US Operations Field Engineering division of Global Technical Services, supporting the US Operations and Maintenance organization. Main area of focus will be the Region 5 - South of the Avangrid Renewables fleet but this person will need to provide remote or in person support to other geographical areas. The role of the Field Engineering team is to respond quickly to turbine-specific operational issues, beyond the skill set of the Field Technicians, regardless of technology or manufacturer, as well as supporting the Field Engineering team in resolving long-term operational issues. This position is based in South Texas.

Responsibilities

• Work closely with O&M Regional Directors and Plant Managers to ensure optimum support is directed to their respective teams.
• Provide technical expertise and project support in evaluation of operational and performance issues.
• Create, maintain and review, technical documentation and work instructions.
• Support conference calls with suppliers to ensure their compliance with contractual obligations.
• Reviews supplier's root cause failure analysis and corrective action documentation.
• Support product improvement programs designed to increase wind turbine performance and/or reduce operational costs.
• Support commercial efforts to develop and qualify second and third-tier parts suppliers.
• Support the technical argumentation in order to resolve warranty-related issues.
• Assures the Team supports Operations and Maintenance personnel with other wind turbine infrastructure components such as but not limited to; gearboxes, blades, generators, frequency converters, and pad transformers.

Skills and Requirements

• Technical Background and demonstrated 5 years' experience in wind turbine engineering or operations.
• Advanced knowledge of hydraulic, electrical and mechanical systems
• Advanced knowledge of various Wind Turbine platforms (Vestas, SGRE, GE, MHI, Suzlon)
• Familiarity with use of electrical and mechanical tools (basic and advanced)
• Computer skills and MS Office skills
• Ability to climb 100 meter tall steel towers on occasional basis to assist with troubleshooting and root cause analysis investigation on turbine component failures.
• Ability to occasionally lift items weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to interpret and follow a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
• Possession of writing skills
• Innovative and analytical way of thinking, focused on troubleshooting
• Ability to work independently
• Approximately 30% travel required
