Zurich is currently searching for a Senior Network Performance Analyst to work out of our North American headquarters in Schaumburg, IL.

As a key member of the IT Operations team within our IT Infrastructure & Operations unit, the Senior Network Performance Analyst will be responsible for working with the Application Performance Monitoring (APM) group to provide expertise in networking. The Analyst should be well versed in network and application architecture, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis. Additionally, the Analyst will be tasked with the essential ability to adjust to shifting priorities while providing needed deliverables.

As a Senior Network Performance Analyst, you will be asked to:

  • Collect and analyze network traces using tools like Wireshark to:

    • Create application flow diagram showings system dependencies

    • Provide fault domain isolation to assist with application troubleshooting

    • Analyze the network's impact on application performance and vice versa

    • Analyze wire data using tools like ExtraHop to identify and analyze anomalies in network metadata

  • Function as SME in utilizing tools to drive forensics on network performance issues that impact optimal end user experience and/or application health

  • Develop/mature the Organization's network observability strategy to ensure comprehensive visibility across our multi-cloud & on-prem data centers

  • Assist teams in incident response investigations and problem analysis.

  • Assist with the writing of reports on incident findings to appropriate teams.

  • Collect network device integrity data and analyze for root cause determination.

  • Utilize their breadth of knowledge & experience to accurately connect the dots between application and network performance issues

  • Utilize their strong network forensics knowledge to cross train other IT engineers

The Analyst should also possess in-depth knowledge of TCP/IP and a strong understanding of network protocols and in-depth knowledge of standard protocols (i.e., ICMP, HTTP/S, DNS, SSH, SMTP, SMB, NFS) and experience in network topologies, including DMZ's, WAN's, etc. A strong understanding of AWS/Azure cloud and its most commonly used network related services as well as Traditional Datacenter and its typical network related components and services should be expected along with experience examining network topologies to understand data flows through the network. Additionally, the Analyst should be experienced with performing threat hunting activities, incident response, and reviewing network architecture while working with the Application Development or Operations team and performing root cause analysis with extensive working knowledge of how network performance affects application.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree and 6 or more years of experience in the Network or Telecommunications area
    OR

  • Associate Degree and 8 or more years of experience in the Network or Telecommunications area
    OR

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and 10 or more years of experience in the Network or Telecommunications area
    OR

  • Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 8 or more years of experience in the Network or Telecommunications area

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelors of Science in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Computer Systems Engineering or related degree

  • 12+ years of information technology experience, with a desired 7+ years in a relevant network performance engineering role or similar position providing comprehensive support of critical multi-tier applications

  • Certifications (e.g., Wireshark Certified Network Analyst, CompTIA Security+, CEH, CISSP)

  • Deep knowledge of network monitoring concepts and methodologies

  • Experience in troubleshooting using APM tools such as Dynatrace or AppDynamics

  • Knowledge and experience in network device integrity concepts and methodologies

  • Knowledge and experience in network analysis software, such as Wireshark

  • Knowledge and experience in carving and extracting information from metadata

  • Knowledge of statistical analysis of performance data to generate concise management reports

  • Ability to work independently with a high degree of initiative and determination
