Job Description
Senior Full Stack Engineer - REMOTE
Why you want to work at Flexion:
We're looking for a Full Stack Engineer with an unwavering passion for designing meaningful, easy-to-use applications. Most of the work we do is on large-scale, enterprise-wide systems (both commercial and government)-this project, in particular, is modernizing electronic test orders and results (ETOR) for newborn screening through the use of an intermediary at the CDC. This intermediary transports and transforms healthcare messages between hospitals and labs, will contain a service catalog of what services labs can render, and in general will be a cornerstone of the CDC's public health initiatives.
At Flexion (an Agile software company that's been delivering excellence for over 24 years), our company culture is built on autonomy, trust, and transparency. We empower teams to remain autonomous and self-directed by hiring people who can solve complex problems by functioning collaboratively-this means lending a hand and flexing your multi-skilled muscles (research, content, business analysis, information architecture, etc.) as needed. Every member within a cross-functional team is a leader who takes responsibility for the entire team's success, which mirrors the company's overall low bureaucracy structure.
What the job looks like:
We are looking for a full-stack engineer with application design and development skills. In this role, you must possess excellent problem-solving skills and an interest to further your technical knowledge and become an integral and actively engaged team member. You should have an interest in learning technical leadership, in excellent communication, and in having a positive attitude.
We use a Scrum agile methodology with all the usual ceremonies. Multiple engineers collaborate often on the same story to complete the work. Our main collaboration tools are Slack, Zoom, and Gather, but we are open to other choices. We base most of our work in GitHub using GitHub flow (PRs into a main branch) and the issues being the stories we work on.
Why we want to hire you:
You can design small pieces as you go, while still thinking about how they fit into the whole. You welcome change as a positive thing (instead of viewing it as "rework") and never look at anything you deliver as "final." You understand when "good enough" really IS good enough, without ever compromising on the overall product quality. You pursue quality over cutting corners. You are interested in learning a broad range of things and becoming an engaged team member. Lastly, you are happy to work with non-engineers, including human-centered design team members, clients, and other partners.
