Senior Expatriate Benefits Lead Consultant

What can you expect?

  • Join an expanding Center of Excellence as a subject matter expert on expatriate benefits program
  • Manage expatriate medical, dental, life, and disability plans, including annual renewals, competitive marketing's, and ad hoc projects on behalf of large multinational employers
  • Work with colleagues in both the domestic US health and international consulting teams, and across MMC organizations as part of a holistic solution to support clients with globally mobile populations

We will count on you to:
  • Lead expat client engagements, including managing overall service delivery.
  • Lead developing cost projections and evaluation of vendor renewal workups.
  • Be accountable forrevenue/profitabilityfor client accounts and projects.
  • Monitor success of projects in terms of scope, budget, timeliness and client satisfaction
  • Lead and participate in new business opportunities with sales channel partners.
  • Manage client activities and direct work to team members according to roles/responsibilities
  • Handle day-to-day client contact/management to resolve project-related questions and challenges, and guide junior staff members in client interactions
  • Provide high level financial, contract and/or administrative analysis and review of the work of junior staff.
  • Acts as an advisor to junior staff for problem resolution and guidance on appropriate ways to deal with challenges
  • Perform data analysis (example includes but is not limited to review claims and utilization data and look for trends and patterns); may involve use of the Mercer's internal financial tools to develop self-funded claims projections, set rates and model employee cost-sharing scenarios.
  • Review internal compliance and client disclosure requirements, external vendor contracts, summary plan documents (SPD's) and employee communications to ensure alignment with client expectations.
  • Communicate Mercer's position on expat industry trends to clients effectively
  • Maintain expertise in the expat insurance vendor marketplace and evolving global compliance landscape
  • Delegate, guide, and coach junior staff and peer review their work
  • Develop internal and client reputation as a trusted expat advisor
  • Work with internal colleagues to provide holistic support for clients across multiple lines of business and geographies
  • Participate in COE intellectual capital development

What you need to have:
  • Minimum 7+ years of work experience, ideally with employee health benefits programs (US or global)
  • 5+ years of experience with expatriate benefits programs (carrier/consulting/client)
  • Ability to work independently with capacity to manage competing priorities via strong time management skills
  • Confidently engage with clients in formal and ad-hoc situations
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Excellent analytical skills and ability to synthesize information and draw conclusions
  • Proven client and project management skills
  • History of successfully collaborating in a team environment
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office - Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Strong business acumen
  • Intellectual curiosity

  • Familiarity with the challenges expat populations experience
  • Underwriting experience or deep technical understanding of financial mechanisms
  • Advanced excel skills; V-look-up, pivot tables, macros
  • BA/BS degree
