Job Summary
Location: Orange, CT, Augusta, ME, Binghamton, NY or Rochester, NY
Support the development and implementation of the Company's initiatives with respect to innovation and implementation of grid modernization technologies that enhance electric distribution system planning across the AVANGRID Networks service territory.
Collaborate with various teams within AVANGRID and globally as well as perform research related to innovative tools and emerging technologies to assess the relevance and benefit to Distribution Planning and the Company's grid modernization initiatives. Participate and support the review and evaluation of different alternatives through the competitive procurement process.
Support all phases of project implementation including technology review and selection; defining project budget, scope and schedule; preparing project justification for budgetary approval; internal and external reporting and tracking; and continuous stakeholder engagement.
Responsibilities
Support the short- and long-range plans to meet Distribution Planning and grid modernization needs including, but not limited to DER & Load Forecasting, beneficial electrification (transportation and heating) impacts, distribution automation, Distributed Energy Resources (DER) and battery storage. Facilitates the implementation of new tools and technologies to enhance Distribution Planning and Non-Wires Alternatives (NWA) analyses. Support the proactive planning activities utilizing advanced planning tools; improving advanced load flow system planning modeling and forecasting tools; Volt VAR optimization; and technologies designed to increase system hosting capacity; and other improvements to enhance the Company's capabilities with respect to grid modernization.
Requires extensive knowledge of power system engineering, the distribution system, distribution planning processes, tools and analyses such as power flow, voltage regulation, power factor, capacity planning during normal and contingency system configurations, DER distribution system interconnections, reliability and resiliency concepts.
Develop thorough understanding and application of Distribution Planning tools used in day-to-day basis such as GIS (SMWeb, SmartMap), SAP, Load Data systems, etc.
Mentor new engineers and support the team to aid in the advancement of business needs. Manages contracted external resources as needed.
Collaborate and interact with internal teams and industry peers on regional and divisional activities.
Assist during storm restoration efforts.

Skills and Requirements
Education & Experience Requirements:
BSEE required, candidates from other engineering disciplines may be considered depending on relevant work experience
5+ years of experience (Industry Related)
Technical Skills and Requirements
The following skills and associated competency levels are desired of those candidates seeking a position in Distribution Planning. However, offsetting industry and other relevant technical skills will be considered for candidates without previous experience in these Distribution Planning activities (e.g. T&D Engineering, P&C, etc.).
