Position Summary

Reporting to the Sr. Manager, Copy and Design (Creative Director), Creative Services within the Global Brand Marketing team, the Copy Writing Manager is responsible for the development of content for healthcare provider (HCP) and Direct to Consumer (DTC) audiences, through the use of compelling writing, supported by clinical evidence and market research. This role will ensure alignment with corporate objectives aimed at increasing category awareness and education, elevating adoption, and reinforcing brand loyalty. This position is responsible for bringing fresh, strong, strategic creative concepts to the table, and working with the broader creative team to bring those concepts to life at various touchpoints. They express their ideas clearly, not just on the page (or screen), but face-to-face. We're looking for writers who are as excited about brand storytelling as they are about brand experiences, and who understand how to use traditional, digital and emerging platforms to hit campaign and business objectives.

Creative Services is responsible for the visual and verbal representation of the Dexcom brand across a variety of audiences (consumers/patients, healthcare providers, employees, etc.) through print, digital, video, photography, etc. from ideation to execution. They work with other members of the Creative Services team, including writers, designers, operations managers, and the global brand team. As time and resources permit, this role may support other departments and outsource or collaborate with external agencies/vendors as needed to develop content and video requests for teams outside of Global Marketing.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead or collaborate on a variety of content development for HCP and DTC audiences which may include endocrinologists, diabetes educators, primary care physicians, pharmacists, people living with diabetes, etc.
  • Play an ongoing role in the development of our brand voice and advocate for consistent application of copy standards across experiences and platforms. Ability to internalize a brand's voice and apply to copy outputs.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to prioritize and execute multiple projects with tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Our copywriters are able to put their heads down and produce awesome work without constant supervision.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with marketing leadership, product management, regulatory affairs, clinical affairs, legal and other departments as appropriate to develop strategies and manage the HCP and DTC marketing projects and initiatives that drive demand for our products.
  • Strategically utilize and apply approved product claims within approved matrices to most effectively position our products and have the ability to research topics with a journalistic eye for detail and accuracy, and synthesize complex information.
  • Strong copyediting and proofreading skills. Attention to small details in both copy decks and designs won't just save headaches; it's extremely important.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to remain current on new clinical studies to apply compelling clinical evidence within marketing materials to align with corporate objectives.

Functional Description

Responsible for the writing advertising promotional materials. Responsible for the text on brochures, billboards, websites, emails, advertisements, catalogs, and more.

  • Possesses knowledge of advanced concepts, techniques, and standards.
  • Viewed as expert in the field within the Function.

  • Works on complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation.
  • Work is reviewed upon completion for adequacy in meeting objectives.
  • Networks with key contacts outside own area of expertise.

  • Exercises judgment in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results.
  • Exercises considerable latitude in determining objectives and approaches to assignment.
  • Determines methods and procedures on new assignments and may coordinate activities of other colleagues.

Experience and Education

  • Typically requires a Bachelors degree and a minimum of 8-12 years of related experience.
  • At this level a graduate degree may be desirable with 4 years of related experience.
  • Mastery of written and verbal communication, with the ability to write for a diverse audience.
  • Ability to interpret clinical summaries and have familiarity with formatting citations and references.
  • Demonstrated ability to write, collaborate on, and interpret creative and project briefs to produce an effective solution that is on strategy.
  • Expertise in writing compelling and inspirational creative briefs - able to distill insights.
  • Solid understanding of visual design, brand identity, and the creative development process.
  • Understanding of program applications in digital channels, including social and email marketing.
  • Ability to build strong relationships and collaborate within the team and cross functionally.
  • Strong prioritizing, organizing, problem solving, and decision-making skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5-7 years marketing and/or experience in medical device, life sciences, or healthcare marketing or product management role.
  • Experience with copywriting for an FDA-regulated product strongly preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign/InCopy, Photoshop, Illustrator) and EndNote.
  • Experience in regulated industries and knowledge of writing within regulatory constraints highly preferred.
  • Ability to create, edit, and publish content within a CMS (Content Management System).
  • Familiar and efficient working within a project/resource management tool (Asana).
  • Agency experience a plus.

Workplace Type

  • The Workplace Type for this role is Flex. Based on the nature of your position you will be working onsite approximately 2-3 days per week from collaborative space and hoteling desks at our Dexcom sites. You will need to be located within commuting distance (typically 75 miles/120km) of your assigned Dexcom site.
