Senior Accountant - Commissions

Overview:

The Senior Accountant, Commissions will report to the Manager, Commissions Accounting, and will play an integral role on the Commissions Accounting team by performing essential accounting functions. This role will also be partnering with the Sales Operations team and the Financial Planning and Analysis team in the design, analysis, and recording of sales commissions. This role will work through complex accounting issues related to sales commissions under ASC 606, support month-end close process, work with auditors for key deliverables, and other ad-hoc projects to support the Commissions Accounting team. A successful candidate will have a strong accounting background, be able to effectively communicate and collaborate cross functionally, and able to take on new tasks with agility and flexibility.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for analyzing and confirming the calculation of sales commissions for the rapidly growing global sales organization under various types of compensation plans through our commission's software
  • Identify and recommend enhancements to our commissions software to continue the automation of the commissions process
  • Work closely with Sales Operations, Enterprise Applications and Financial Planning and Analysis teams on the development and analysis of commissions plans, including providing an understanding of accounting consequences of each plan type
  • Perform month-, quarter-, and year- end close activities related to accrued and deferred commissions (e.g., preparing journal entries and monthly account reconciliations)
  • Prepare and provide our global payroll department with pay files for commission payments to our global sales team
  • Perform user acceptance testing (UAT) on any new plans or enhancements to the commission plans
  • Assist in reconciliation of the data from our commissions system to various other IT systems including our ERP, payroll reports, CRM, and HRMS
  • Apply U.S. GAAP to and analyze a variety of accounting transactions
  • Responsible for developing and maintaining internal control for areas of responsibilities
  • Assist in working with Internal Audits and external auditors for quarterly reviews and annual audit
  • Prepare analyses, reconciliations, SOX compliance activities, and ad hoc reporting, such as researching and analyzing discrepancies to support business related inquiries
  • As needed, complete other commissions-related duties and ad hoc projects

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree from four-year college or university with an emphasis in Accounting, Finance, Business or equivalent
  • Minimum of 3+ years' experience in accounting and commissions-based compensation
  • CPA or CPA candidate preferred
  • Exceptional analytical skills and comprehension of compensation plans and the related accounting consequences
  • Must have the ability to prioritize workload and perform multiple tasks under accelerated deadlines
  • Detail oriented and self-starter and able to work well and communicate effectively in a team environment
  • Able to adapt in a changing environment and take on new tasks with agility and flexibility
  • Experience working with Alteryx, NetSuite (or equivalent ERP), Salesforce.com (or equivalent CRM), SAP Commissions (or equivalent commissions software) is a plus
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
