Zoetis is seeking a talented and experienced scientific researcher to contribute to our efforts at the research incubator, Global Therapeutics Research in Fort Collins, CO. This individual will partner with project teams to develop and design immunoassays to functionally characterize cell lines used to build a basic understanding of disease targets, pathways, and therapeutic mechanisms of action in addition to contributing to novel therapeutic platform development.

The successful candidate should have knowledge of molecular and cell biology aspects of functional cell line development from vector design/construction, gene editing, cell culture maintenance, clone screening, and functional characterization through protein assays. Experience with and understanding of immune cells, antibody function and CRISPR is highly desired. Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills are essential. Some travel required.

Please note: This position is for a fixed term of 3 years.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Design expression vectors/plasmids
  • Generation and evaluation of reporter cell lines and/or knock out/knock in lines for pre-clinical development programs (genomic editing techniques such as CRISPR and/or shRNa)
  • Design and develop fit-for-purpose assays including molecular assays, immunoassays, high-sensitivity immunoassays for characterizing cell lines.
  • Develop novel strategies for improving speed of cell line development and implement improvements to existing platform technologies.
  • Collaborate across multiple scientific disciplines to understand mechanistic biology.
  • Directly communicate with external partners for collaborations and outsourcing.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Degree in an applicable field (Cellular biology, Microbiology, Veterinary Science, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Genetics, Immunology or related field) with 7+ years of experience for Bachelor's, 5-7 years for Master's and 0+ years for PhD.
  • High proficiency in mammalian cell culture and functional cell line development and experienced in a wide range of state-of-the-art molecular and cellular biology techniques (cloning, subcloning, qPCR, etc.)
  • Experience with genomic or genome editing approaches to assess gene function (CRISPR and/or shRNA)
  • Deep knowledge of designing and developing immunoassays and optimizing methods and reagents for cellular readouts and protein characterization.
  • High proficiency in cellular screening, experience with laboratory automation is a plus.
  • Experience working with primary immune cells such as T cells, NK cells.
  • Self-starter, able to prioritize work and work efficiently, design experiments with minimal supervision, and able work across teams remotely and face-to-face.
  • Experience interacting with CROs or external partnerships
  • Excellent verbal/written communication, organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Computer skills required: Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, BLAST, Vector NTI or equivalent and NGS analysis software.

Work environment:

The placement of this position will be primarily in Fort Collins, CO. Occasional travel to R&D headquarters in Kalamazoo, MI may also be requested.

The person filling this position may work primarily in a laboratory setting. There may be exposure to animal pathogens and chemicals. There may be handling of, and/or exposure to animal tissue and zoonotic organisms
