SUMMARY

The Safety Specialist collects, manages, and reports operational data. The Specialist is responsible for maintaining the security and integrity of all data accessed. This role will play an integral part in providing different departments with regular safety data to support management requests to make operational decisions and proactively identify performance trends. This position will be directed to perform edits to existing and future documentation and be able to produce properly formatted well written manuals and documents within the Safety Department.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESinclude the following, but not limited to:

  • Processes and inputs safety related data for operational workgroups. This entails data collection, assessment, analysis, and report processing.
  • Conduct research, initial analysis, and prepare reports in support of safety investigations and other ad hoc assignments.
  • Perform, support, and review the monitoring of various sources of safety data, including:

      • Crewmember reports of operational events and safety issues.
      • Data generated across safety functional areas (Flight Operations, Ground Operations, Technical Operations, Station Operations, System Safety).
      • Aircraft flight data.
  • Assist in performing SRAs and maintaining the Safety database.
  • Interfaces with operating departments to ensure objectives and Company data needs are met.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to integrate safety related data from all areas of the operation.
  • Conduct monitoring and review of safety data from a variety of sources (safety reporting, investigations, audit data, risk data, flight data, and other sources as needed
  • Assist in administration of Safety systems and tools.
  • Generate routine and special reports for all levels in the organization detailing study results.
  • Design, develop and distribute safety information in a visually compelling manner to Operational Leaders.
  • Track and ensure completion of corrective actions completed through the SRM process.
  • Ensure all SRMs are filled and completed accurately and correctly before review by senior management.
  • Acquire and input data in support of communications, reports, and newsletter articles.
  • Perform directed edits to safety manuals, manual supplements, and additional documentation.
  • Report generation. ASAP/MSAP/FOQA program support as required:

      • Process reports.
      • Assist with document control.
  • Produce high-quality documentation that meets applicable standards.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:



EDUCATION and/or CERTIFICATION:
  • Associate degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school required.
  • Bachelor's degree in aviation, aviation safety, aviation management or related field or equivalent combination of education and work experience preferred.
  • Technical writing certification preferred.


REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE:
  • Knowledge of Federal Aviation Regulations and ICAO ISARPs.
  • Knowledge of 14 CFR part 5.
  • Familiarity with safety, quality, and risk management concepts.
  • Working knowledge of SMS platform (ProSafeT) preferred.


REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
  • 3 to 5 years’ work experience at a Part 121 air carrier required, or
  • 1 to 3 years’ experience inFlight Operations, Maintenance, Cargo Operations, Station Operationscapacity, andFAA certificated Pilot, A&P, Dispatcher (as applicable)preferred.
  • Experience in Safety Management, Safety voluntary programs, manual writing and auditing preferred.


SKILLS and/or ABILITIES:
  • Excellent writing skills, including manual writing, report writing, and correspondence with government agencies.
  • Ability to establish and effectively manage numerous priorities and meet deadlines through strong planning and organizational skills.
  • Ability to develop and create training presentations.
  • Strong work ethic, ability to work in a fast-paced deadline-driven environment and a positive attitude toward teamwork.
  • Strong computer proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets, and presentation software.
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task.
  • Detailed oriented and highly organized, with ability to multi-task and work independently with limited guidance in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent interpersonal, analytical, and problem-solving skills
