The Hudson & Holland Scholars Program (HHSP) with in the Office of the Vice President for Diversity, Equity and Multicultural Affairs.

The Hudson & Holland Scholars Program (HHSP) is a scholarship and academic support program for high-achieving underrepresented minorities. HHSP is the largest merit-based scholarship program at Indiana University with over 2,200 students currently enrolled.

The program provides a scholarship as well as a variety of support services to address the holistic needs of student participants in the program. HHSP students are some of the best and brightest students at IU whose presence and contributions enrich the campus learning environment by living the HHSP motto: Leadership, Engagement, Academics, and Diversity (LEAD).

Job Summary

Department Specific Responsibilities

  • Innovatively develops and implements retention programs and initiatives focused on holistic student development.
  • Measures and evaluates effectiveness of retention initiatives for underrepresented students (with a special focus on African American students) in HHSP against projected outcomes; Regularly prepares reports and presents to stakeholders on effectiveness and to secure funding for initiatives moving forward.
  • Identifying and developing support initiatives and activities for HHSP students facing obstacles, achieving milestones, and accomplishing objectives.
  • Collaborates with staff in own department and other departments, as well as student organization leaders, on shared retention goals, often coordinating funding to sponsor retention initiatives.
  • Assists with HHSP functions including IFS, Orientation, Graduation, and Events. Plans and coordinates communications for retention initiatives to ensure student participation and inclusion.
General Responsibilities
  • In consultation with leadership, develops, designs, and maintains diversity, equity, belonging, and inclusion program objectives to support organizational goals.
  • Develops communications and serves as liaison to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging program participants, collaborators in other units, community partners, and leadership members.
  • Provides mechanisms, training, and advice on diversity-related topics, such as cultural understanding, implicit bias, recruitment and retention strategies, inclusive terminology, and team dynamics, to a variety of audiences.
  • Recruits, trains, directs, schedules, and evaluates faculty and staff partners, students and volunteers. Mentors, serves as a resource and provides guidance to team staff members as needed.
  • Serves on various committees and provide input on strategic direction for the department or unit.
  • Arranges staff travel, accommodations, and research activities as necessary.

EDUCATION

Required
  • Bachelor's degree in related field
WORK EXPERIENCE

Required
  • 2 years in diversity, equity, and inclusion programming or related field

Working Conditions / Demands

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
