Performs non-invasive respiratory care procedures as ordered under the supervision of a licensed Respiratory Therapist. Participates in assisting with assessing, implementing, and evaluating patient care. Provides designated clinical and/or support services. Teaches and demonstrates respiratory care activities to patients and their representatives. Cleans, assembles, sets up and maintains equipment and supplies.

Job Responsibilities and Areas of Educational Experience:

  • Perform basic Respiratory Care modalities under the direct supervision of a licensed Respiratory Therapist.
  • Perform basic patient assessments.
  • Initiates, manages, and maintains basic oxygen delivery systems on the floors.
  • Administers Respiratory medications via nebulizers and MDI
  • Perform Oxygen saturation checks.
  • Performs airway clearance to include suctioning and inexsufflation under the supervision of a licensed therapist.
  • EKGs
  • May assist with equipment and supplies stocking, cleaning, and set up.
  • Replenishes, organizes, and monitors medical gases.
  • Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with Center and departmental policies and procedures. Responsible for the reporting of employee/patient/visitor injuries or accidents, or other safety issues to the supervisor and in the occurrence notification system.
Required Minimum Education:
  • Currently enrolled in an AMA approved Respiratory Care program and have completed one semester.
Required Minimum Skills:
  • Ability to work as a member of a team.
  • Skill and ability to handle multiple priorities and deadlines.
Physical Demands:
  • Uses body, tools, or special devices to safely, effectively, and efficiently to move, guide, or place patients. Involves some latitude for judgement with regard to precision attained and the selection of what adaptive device(s) to utilize.
  • Ability to transfer and position patients, consistent with lifting up to 50 lbs.
Working Conditions:
  • Some potential for exposure to blood and body fluids
