Job Description

Wellesley College seeks a dynamic, team-oriented Resource Acquisitions Specialist to perform functions related to the acquisition of scholarly resources that support teaching and learning at the College. The Resource Acquisitions Specialist works collaboratively to integrate the areas of library purchasing, licensing, and resource sharing to ensure effective access for library users and efficient deployment of library funds.

Wellesley College is a private, nonprofit liberal arts college for women founded in 1870. With its rich mix of print, media, and online resources, the Library provides access to one of the finest undergraduate collections in the country.

Key Responsibilities:

  • As a member of the Library Collections group and the Scholarly Resource Services team, evaluate, process, and communicate requests for library resources to recommend appropriate fulfillment within a complex landscape of formats and access models.
  • In collaboration with another staff member, facilitate the ordering and receiving of monographs, audiovisual materials, and electronic resources for the Library.
  • Act as a resource for library administration and selector librarians, providing data to facilitate effective collection development decisions.
  • In collaboration with library administration, manage the Library's budget accounts for all materials. Ensure timely payment of invoices, track spending, produce budget analyses.
  • Coordinate with Resource Sharing Specialist and student staff to support interlibrary loan functions. Using data and practical experience across functional areas, work to integrate ILL and collection development functions.
  • Monitor and recommend response to trends in the library resource sharing, purchasing, and licensing landscape. Serve as the Library's point person for shared print programs and controlled digital lending activities and initiatives.

Required Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree in Library and Information Science or a combination of equivalent educational and professional experience.
  • An understanding of the mission of higher education and the required support of library resources.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the organization and classification of information resources (national and international standards).
  • Ability to identify, evaluate, and acquire library materials according to institutional criteria and guidelines.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills; ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Working knowledge of one or more foreign languages.
  • Commitment to fostering an equitable and inclusive workplace, and an ability to work effectively with a diverse faculty, staff, and student population.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • 1-3 years experience in resource acquisition, resource sharing, or other relevant functional area in library services.
  • Experience with acquisitions functions in an academic or research library.
